I have heard from a Toyota dealer in Punjab that the Fortuner will become available with Automatic transmission in India in the August-October 2010 timeframe. There will also be a DVD player and GPS naviation system on board this new model. Can anyone out there please tell me if they have hard the same rumours for the Indian market? I have heard that Toyta is introducing the upgaded model to deal with growing competition from other SUVs in the same segment in India. Kind Regards, Sukhvinder Singh (Norway)
The Fortuner is offered with two engine options. The original 3.0 litre and the 2.5 litre derived from the Innova. The 3.0 litre version is offered in 4 trims. A 4x2 and a 4x4, in combination with either an automatic or manual box.
The 2,982cc D-4D turbocharged diesel engine delivers a generous 168bhp of maximum power and peak torque of 360Nm while 2.5-litre variant delivers 142bhp power and 343Nm torque.

Apart from this - Toyota is expected to launch the all-new Fortuner in India. Under the hood, the upcoming Fortuner will have the same set of diesel engines as offered in the Innova Crysta. One can choose from either a 2.4-litre diesel mill that churns out 150PS of power and 343Nm of torque, or a 2.8-litre diesel motor that produces 174PS of power and 360Nm of torque. It is possible that Toyota will tune the engines differently to get more power for the heavy SUV. Like in the Innova Crysta, transmission duties for the new Fortuner will be handed over to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
