I purchased a Tata Nano in November 2009 and felt absolutely cheated when the car returned a mileage of just 10.5 Kms per litre in city traffic.
For almost one and a half years I kept writing to Tata Motors to change the engine of my Nano so that I can also get a mileage of around 16 to 18 Kms per litre as claimed by some Tano owners. One specific Nano owner in Delhi (a lady doctor) stated that her Nano was giving her 21 Kms per litre in Delhi traffic.
Finally Tata Motors agreed to change the engine of my Nano which was done between 22nd & 26th April 2011.
To my utter shock and surprise this new engine also returned only 10.2 Kms per litre.
Since I have carefully checked the mileage of the Nano with two different engines over a period of 3 + months with each engine, I can boldly confirm with the data available with me that the mileage of the Tata Nano in city traffic is only around 10.5 Kms per litre.
Please do not believe if any one says that the Nano gives a higher mileage than 10.5 Kms in city traffic.

Tata Motors said that the mileage of Tata Nano in city is 22kmpl while on highway it will give 26kmpl.. But to know the actual mileage of Tata Nano you have to wait some more days.. After the second or third service we would get aware with the actual mileage of this car.
New Tata Nano with EasyShift is available at Rs. 2 lac (Ex-showroom, Delhi), and the final cost depends on the valuation of your car. So, first get the valuation of your car from authorized Tata dealer, so he can give you a final quote for the new car.
