Question

I have an ALTO K10 bought on may 2013. I rarely use it and it has only 2300KM on the odometer. It got first serviced at 300KM , 2nd on 700KM and 3rd on 1200KM. I am newbie to automobiles . Lately my car has developed a problem- While coasting ( ie accelerated to a particular speed and then foot is released from the accelerator and clutch , no brake is pressed) usually engine braking occurs. But now a new sound is being heard . I dont know to how to express the sound in words , but it like a frail metal sliding sound( imagine the exhaust pipe is being dragged at cnstant speed through the tar road a metallic friction type sound is heard no, some thing like that or something like if we drive at a low speed on a high gear a sound will occur no , that sound if frequency increased will be more like it ) . I dont know what to do. I parked the vehicle and run the engine but no change in engine noise in idle but i feel a little bit additional kick when starting the engine.I checked if it was clutch slipping/worn by applying parking brakes , and slowly releasing clutch on 3rd gear. The car tried to move forward and didnt go off. So i think no clutch problem , what else can the source of the sound??? I am very puzzled and panicked. Is it alignment problem or suspension problem , or axle problem i dont know please help. How much will it take to do repairs??

Answers for this Question

Hi, This sounds a bit strange for such a new car, but sometimes a part come faulty straight from the plant. However, the intensity of sound you are explaining, if there is a loose part or suspension problem, you could have noticed it already. Another possibility can be a faulty bearing in the drive train, so we would advise you to get it diagnosed at the nearest MSI service centre.

  • Which of the two cars " ford figo 1.5 diesel trend MT" and " tata nexon petrol xm trim" is more FUN to drive ? ( both cost nearly the same )

CarDekho is one-stop destination for all your automobile related questions!

Both the options you've selected are indeed awesome & stand apart in their own way.

Ford Figo is well-rounded product and has solid build quality which offers the perfect balance of performance and features. It features three engines (two petrol and one diesel) and two transmission options. There's a 1.2-litre (88PS/111Nm) and a 1.5-litre petrol (112PS/136Nm) engine on offer along with a 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/215Nm). A 5-speed manual is standard with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine comes exclusively with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Tata Nexon is equipped with refined diesel engine which is lively at low revs; the petrol motor could’ve been a notch more responsive. It gets drive modes that change the character of the engine. The dynamics of Nexon offers a comfortable ride without any compromise on handling.

    Verdict:

Coming to your query, Figo is more fun to drive in comparison to Nexon. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine of the Tigor gets a 25PS power burst with the turbocharger on it. It makes 110PS of max power at 5000rpm and 170Nm of peak torque at 1750-4000rpm. It isn’t, however, as exciting or refined as the diesel unit. So, while the diesel engine is responsive even at low rpm, the petrol engine feels quite sluggish, and in case you’re driving with a full house, the progress gets much slower.

The petrol engine hits the meat of its powerband just around 3000rpm and not 1750rpm, where max torque starts to kick in but yes, neither of these are reasons to rule the Nexon out completely.

  • Which car is best baleno vs swift!

Published On :2017-09-19 11:48:13.0 By Arun

Thank you for considering us worthy enough to address your concern & writing to us.

Both the options that you've selected are awesome as they offer perfect balance between features & performance.

Maruti Swift VXI is a mid range petrol variant. Its exteriors gets a few updates like a redesigned radiator grille that looks more aggressive and a tweaked bumper in body color.

Maruti Baleno is a premium hatchback is priced aggressively when compared to its competitors & offers Dual Front Airbags, ABS & EBD (Anti-Lock Brakes & Electronic Brake Distribution) standard across all variants.

Click here - Maruti Baleno First Drive

If you will be driving around 50-70kms.(Approx.) a day, we will suggest you to go with diesel car. Otherwise, if your driving will be less, than you can opt for petrol car.

    Verdict:

Maruti Swift is a stylish, easy and fun to drive hatchback and feels quite well made too. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is peppy and responsive, while both engine options offer great fuel economy figures as well. Backed by Maruti Suzuki’s after-sales network and support, the Swift is, indeed, a can't-go-wrong-option if you’re a first time car buyer, or someone upgrading from a budget hatchback. It’s also a fantastic buy if you’re a driving enthusiast. The only drawback is it’s average cabin space and boot volume, which mean it isn’t the most practical car in the segment.

The Baleno offers good fit and finish compared to any other car in the Maruti portfolio. The car looks beautiful from the outside and isn’t too bad on the inside either. The Baleno is a step up from the Swift in terms of what it offers. It’s perfect for someone who is looking for something more than the Swift and at the same time wants to retain the peace of mind of owning a Maruti Suzuki.
