Maruti Alto Average

Answers for this Question
I am completely shocked by getting this good mileage. As I leave in Mumbai and in Mumbai traffic running on full AC I get around 15-16 Kmpl that is great. Compared to other hatchback cars this is the cheapest and has best mileage and as it is a Maruti car it has the lowest maintenance cost. I would say it is the value for money car and itâ??s after sales service is best and also it has a good resale value compared to other cars. It even has good comfortable seating and great handling.

My experience shows that I get around 15 in the city and 18 appx on the highway. With the rising cost of petrol, this is one economical car to own. Optimum milage however is linked to driving style and Maruti itself recomends excellent ways to maximise milage. The everlasting beauty of a maruti is the cost of spares and the no. of service stations. Once a Maruti owner, always a Maruti owner. Derek

Maruti Alto give average based on how you ride the car ! I have friends for whom it has given 22 kmpl average on delhi jaipur highway. He always drives the car at around 80 Kmph and avoids sharp brakes. If he has to stop at redlight more than 30 seconds he switches off the engine. Similarly another friend gets average of just 16 on highway, he is one reckless driver who drives his Alto at 120 kmph. So the average is very much dependent on the style of driving also. There is no one average that can be told for Maruti Alto

  • Is car dekho milage is realistic????

Published On :Sep 3, 2016 By Arun

The mileage, features, and whichever details that are mentioned on the CarDekho website regarding any car is the one which is claimed by the brand.

Coming to the mileage specifically - The mentioned fuel economy figures are the same as claimed by the brand. However, the actual mileage cannot be determined. It can vary, depending upon the factors like environmental conditions, way of driving etc.

  • Hi, am a first time car buyer... Have shortlisted Renault Kwid 1.0, but now confused between AMT vs Manual. Would like to know which will be better for a first time buyer like me in terms of city driving, handling, fuel efficiency and durability. Further would like to know AMT pros and cons.

Published On :Aug 26, 2016 By Arun

It is great that you are planning for a new car. Kwid 1.0 with manual transmission has launched recently and Renault India confirmed that Kwid AMT will be launched within "this financial year".

Which is more suitable for you-AMT or manual? It depends on your driving requirements. If you like complete control of the car and better fuel economy, manual transmission is the way to go. However, if the thought of driving doesn’t fill you with joy, an automatic is by far the easiest option. A lot of town or city driving means lots of gear changing. If it is about city driving, AMT will be better but when it comes about fuel efficiency, durability and handling - manual transmission is a better option.

Automated Manual Transmission commonly called AMT is basically a manual transmission car in which the operation of the clutch and the gear changing is done automatically with the help of a computerised electro-hydraulic mechanism. An AMT car will not have a clutch and the gear lever will only have the options of Neutral, Reverse and Forward. There is also the control to upshift or downshift the gear manually with the +/- option.

The upshift or downshift +/- option on the gear lever helps to select the gear, for example when you want to overtake you can shift to a lower gear (from 4th to 3rd gear for example) just by tapping the AMT gear shift stick. You press the accelerator and rev up the engine at the lower gear and you will get the necessary acceleration required to overtake.

Another very important advantage of an AMT automatic car is that the AMT car will not roll backwards when you stop and go on an uphill slope. In a manual car you have to be an expert using the clutch and brakes together to avoid rolling backwards when you stop and start on an upwards slope.

Manual transmission don't need as much maintenance as automatics and when they do, the repair costs are much cheaper.

Manual transmission boxes are lighter than automatics.

It's much easier for an automatic transmission to overheat.

Cars with manual transmission consume 5%-15% less fuel depending on road conditions and driving habits.
