A vehicle that has two or more power trains is called a Hybrid Vehicle. A hybrid vehicle with an electrical power train is called a Hybrid Electric Vehicle. A hybrid vehicle drive train usually consists of no more than two power trains. More than two power trains will make the drive train very complicated.

Examples of different power trains in hybrid electric vehicles are: Internal Combustion (IC) Engine and Battery. Eg. Toyota Prius, BYD F3DM, Ford Escape Hybrid. Fuel Cell and Battery. Eg. Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle advanced (FCHV-adv).
