Looking to change to an AMT/Auto option. Currently i have the alto k10 2010 model. I want to change to an amt by next year because of the daily bumper to bumber traffic where i have to constantly keep changing gears. So changing to AMT in alto or renault.. is it a good option.
It is undoubtedly a good decision to switch to a car which has AMT transmission for hassle free driving.
Automated Manual Transmission commonly called AMT is basically a manual transmission car in which the operation of the clutch and the gear changing is done automatically with the help of a computerised electro-hydraulic mechanism. An AMT car will not have a clutch and the gear lever will only have the options of Neutral, Reverse and Forward. There is also the control to upshift or downshift the gear manually with the +/- option.
The upshift or downshift +/- option on the gear lever helps to select the gear, for example when you want to overtake you can shift to a lower gear (from 4th to 3rd gear for example) just by tapping the AMT gear shift stick. You press the accelerator and rev up the engine at the lower gear and you will get the necessary acceleration required to overtake.
Another very important advantage of an AMT automatic car is that the AMT car will not roll backwards when you stop and go on an uphill slope. In a manual car you have to be an expert using the clutch and brakes together to avoid rolling backwards when you stop and start on an upwards slope.
Added to all these advantages of the AMT car, is the fact that an AMT auto gear car actually gives better mileage than a manual car. This is because the electronic brain of the AMT auto gear car is a much better driver than any of us and knows exactly when to change gears and save on petrol or diesel.
Coming to Alto K10 - The Alto K10 has always been a fun to drive little hatchback. Maruti is also offering an AMT gearbox on the Alto K10. The Alto K10 AMT, or AGS as Maruti is calling it in the K10, is the most affordable automatic car in the country. In terms of technical specifications, it is incorporated with a K10 petrol engine that has three cylinders. This mated with a 5-speed automated manual transmission gear box, which makes it an affordable automatic car in the market. On the safety front, it has some vital aspects like child safety locks, high mount stop lamp and a few others that offers maximum protection. This motor has the ability of producing a maximum power of 67.04bhp at 6000rpm and generates a peak torque output of 90Nm at 3500rpm, which is quite good considering the Indian road and traffic conditions. At the same time, it returns a fuel economy of around 20 Kmpl when driven under standard city traffic conditions.
Talking about Kwid AMT - Renault India confirmed that the Kwid 1.0-litre AMT, or “Easy-R” as they call it, is indeed in the works and will be launched within "this financial year".
Like other AMT cars available in the country, the Kwid Easy-R will offer fuel economy and performance of a manual transmission along with the convenience of clutch-free driving using the automated gear shifts. The gear lever has three modes - Drive, Neutral and Reverse. While in Drive the control unit automatically selects the ideal gear according to the driving conditions. Moreover, the crawl function helps the car move forward and backward slowly without throttle input.
We expect the AMT to be limited to the top-spec trims i.e. RXT and RXT (O) only. Considering the AMT will be available in top trims, it will get the whole laundry list of features, including the 7-inch infotainment system, front two power windows, air conditioning and a digital infotainment cluster.
Rest, we suggest you to take a test drive before you make a final call after Kwid AMT gets launched.
I am planning to buy a compact SUV and have to choose between Ford Ecosport 1.5 Petrol Trend and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza VDI Optional.Which one should i go for i am really confused.Ecosport looks an older model now and has very less mileage but is more powerful than Brezza, while as Brezza is still new and a diesel option means better mileage.Kindly guide me through the pros and cons of buying either of the two. Which one should i go for and why?
It's great that you are looking to buy a car and we'll surely assist you with same. The options you have selected are best in there segment and compete neck to neck. If you are driving 60-80Kms(Approx.) a day then you can opt for diesel car which can be a good option in terms of performance and can offer you better mileage. On the other hand, we suggest you to choose for petrol car if your car daily running is less. If mileage is a concern, EcoSport 1.5 Ti VCT MT Trend has a mileage ranging between 11.9kmpl and 15.9kmpl while Vitara Brezza VDi Option offers a fuel efficiency of 20.8 - 24.3kmpl. However, if you are looking for performance we would suggest you to pick for Ford Ecosport. But here the engine is noisy that is likely to be uncomfortable for long trips as the driver will find the noise levels in the cabin irritating beyond a point which is less as compared to Vitara Brezza. The Vitara Brezza looks muscular but no petrol variant is offered. Verdict: If you are looking daily commute purpose in heavy city traffic we would suggest you to pick vitara brezza and if you drive more on highways we suggest you go for Ford Ecosport.
