Is there any tax exemption for disabled person when buying a new car?
Instead of saying straight Yes, we would like to elaborate few things that we know about this matter.
The exemption in Excise is available (100%) to physically handicap persons (mentally sound) only if they buy a car specially designed for handicapped. The procedure to be followed is - the person has to apply directly to the manufacturing company. He will be personally called & interviewed then the car will be modified suitably/specially for him. Besides, the modification/s, such cars are necessarily with auto transmission gears.
Second, RTO will register the car in his name & issue driving license only if a certificate from CMO (Chief Medical Officer) is issued, specifying the disability of the person concerned, and that, he will, however, be able to drive so.
I recently purchased a Maruti Suzuki swift lxi optional from Poddar khanapara dealer in Guwahati, Assam. In the invoice bill they have mentioned the car price as 4,18,638 and after taxes came around 4.83 lakhs. But the on road price is somewhat 5.74 lakhs. So when I enquired about it with the dealer they said, it's the factory price of the car and they don't mention the on road price in the invoice bill. I'm a bit confused right now. Is it true?
Well, Maruti Suzuki Swift DLX is a limited edition car and has not been launched across India. It is exclusively available for the consumers living in Delhi.
