Answers for this Question

Options make our life easier but not always, especially when all the options stand at par with each other. This is exactly what happens when we have to take a decision while buying a car from a variety of alternatives hitting the market, and all of them competing neck to neck with each other. So, how do we decide which car to buy?  There are number of aspects that we need to consider before making up our mind. A few of them can be:

>Decide on your budget
>Decide for the segment you want to buy: a compact car, a Sedan or an SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle)
>Look for the detailed interior and exterior features of the options available in your segment like engine power, gear box, mileage, car handling and breaking, and other technical features.
>Gather prior information of the best sellers in the market by going through the market surveys, and don’t forget to ask for discounts and incentives if offered by the manufacturer.

If you're in the market to buy a new car and you have approximately INR 9 lakhs to spend, then you might find yourself in a dilemma. It's obviously not a bad thing, but making a decision will be tough, especially if you're not certain which segment suits your needs the best. There’s so much to choose from. You’ve got hatches, sedans, MPVs and small SUVs as well.

There is a list of vehicles which we feel are the best cars in India below 9 lakhs.

Maruti Baleno: The Baleno offers the perfect balance of performance, features & quality. The Baleno offers good fit and finish compared to any other car in the Maruti portfolio. The car looks beautiful from the outside and isn’t too bad on the inside either. While the diesel may seem underpowered, it makes up with a lightweight body and splendid fuel economy. In terms of performance, it falls in the middle of the segment and the car is easy to drive in city conditions. One of the biggest advantages of having the Baleno over the completion is the access to Maruti’s unmatched after sales and service network.

Hyundai Elite i20: I20 created the premium hatchback segment in our market and this hatch has always been rich on features. If you want a feature rich hatchback, look no further.

VOLKSWAGEN POLO GT TSI: One of the hottest hatchbacks on sale in India currently, the Polo GT TSI combines the standard car's practicality with performance. It is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged TSI motor producing 104 bhp and 175 Nm of torque making it one of the most powerful hatchbacks. That engine has been mated to VW's 7 speed DSG dual clutchbox and what you get is car that is an absolute hoot to drive.

FORD ECOSPORT: It has looks, it's packed with features, being a Ford it's good to drive and its got very good engines. The SUV-like exterior with a rear mounted spare wheel and high ground clearance has been a hit with Indian customers and also helps in tackling our roads.Inside there's as much space a big hatchback and the feature list is never ending. Combine that with great engines and great driving dynamics what you get is a vehicle that is hard to fault.

Ford Aspire:  It's the best looking car in its segment, it's got well-appointed spacious interiors and plenty of new features that would keep even a tech geek happy. Its also good to see that Ford hasn't compromised on safety.

Honda City: The Honda City has always been popular with Indian car buyers. The car is good fun to drive, comes packed with features and the automatic version even gets paddle shifters.

    Maruti CelerioX Highlights

In order to attract the young and enthusiastic customers, Maruti has added CelerioX in its product range. The highlight of CelerioX edition is its racy exteriors accentuated by aggressive nose and chin. Maruti has very carefully used body cladding all around the CelerioX which adds to the visual bulk of the car. The interiors of CelerioX have also got their share of upgrades although there are no alterations in the engine and transmission department. The 998 cc, three-cylinder K-series petrol motor under the hood of CelerioX puts out 68 PS and 90 Nm and is mated to 5-speed manual as well as automatic transmission.

    Tata Nexon Highlights

The Nexon is hogging all the limelight owing to its radical design and a lot of clever engineering touches. The white ceramic strip running along the windows is a clever visual touch and merges well with the other design elements like tear-drop headlamps, smiling grille, muscular bonnet etc. Step inside and the quality of the cabin is pretty impressive, especially in terms of choice of materials and their soft-touch feel.

The Tata Nexon is powered by a set of new-age powertrains - 110PS/170Nm, 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine and 110PS/260Nm, 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine. For now, both these engines are mated to 6-speed manual transmission though AMT is soon expected to join the ranks.

Priced between Rs 5.99-9.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Nexon has primarily got Maruti Vitara Brezza in its crosshairs along with Ford Ecosport and Mahindra KUV1OO NXT.

Coming to the query, if you are traveling less than 50-60km a day, opt for a petrol car instead of a diesel. With the extra Rs 1-1.50 lakh spent on a diesel purchase, you can actually drive a similar petrol car for as many as two years! So, do your math carefully. A diesel usually makes sense if you are driving above 60/70km a day.

So, it clearly states that if your car monthly running or daily usage does not cross the limit shared above for diesel cars then it doesn't make sense to put your money on it.

On the other hand, we would suggest you to take the possession of a 2018 make year model as it will be directly proportional to re-sale value (also subject to car condition, no. of owners etc).

Furthermore, some dealership may have leftover stock and new manufacturing year models start reaching dealerships - that's the time dealership tries to get void of old stock and clear blocked funds and inventory lines.

Also, offers and discounts are provided by the brand and it may also vary according to the city, brand and model. There are scenarios wherein dealers also give attractive deals to their customers.
