Hi Narendra,

Yes you can import a car from Japan. Exim policy stipulates that for a new vehicles being imported to the country, the vehicle should not be manufactured or assembled in India, not been sold, leased or loaned prior to being imported to India, or should have been registered for use in any country prior to being imported to India. Vehicle should be imported only from the country of manufacturer and should company with CMVR, 1989. Imports of new cars would be allowed only through Mumbai port, Chennai and Kolkata. The vehicle should necessarily have right hand steering controls. The government takes just double and or much excise duty on the new vehicles.

Thank you.
