Xylo D2 Review
The reputed home grown auto maker, Mahindra and Mahindra, has introduced the updated version of Xylo in the country's car market. It is available in various trims with two diesel engine options. Out of these, Mahindra Xylo D2 BSIV is an entry level diesel trim that is incorporated with a 2.5-litre, mDI power plant. This mill is skillfully paired with an efficient five speed manual transmission gear box. It helps the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 in close to 17 seconds, which is rather good. This motor can generate 93.7bhp peak power along with maximum torque output of 218Nm, which is good considering the Indian road conditions. The manufacturer has blessed it with an efficient suspension system that is based on the comfort drive technology. In terms of exteriors, it has an aggressive front fascia with aspects like a large radiator grille and a black colored bumper. The sides look attractive with wheel arch cladding and ORVMs. Its rear end includes a wide windscreen along with a bright tail lamp cluster. It is currently available six exciting color options for the buyers to select from. These include Toreador Red finish, Diamond White, Java Brown, Dolphin Grey, Mist Silver as well as Fiery Black. This trim is bestowed with a few safety features, which not only safeguards its occupants but the vehicle as well. This DOHC based power plant is integrated with four cylinders and 16-valves. It has the ability to churn out a maximum power output of 93.7bhp at 3600rpm along with a peak torque of 218Nm between 1400 to 2600rpm. The company has skillfully coupled this engine with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which allows the MUV to deliver good acceleration and pick up. It takes about 17 seconds to cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph from zero, while, it can achieve a top speed in the range of 150 to 160 Kmph. This diesel mill is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system, which helps in generating 10.3 Kmpl in the city conditions and on the highways, it gives close to 13.6 Kmpl, which is rather good for this segment.
Braking and Handling:
Its front axle is assembled with a double wishbone type of mechanism with independent front suspension. While the rear axle is fitted with a multi link coil spring type of a system. On the other hand, the company has given it a robust braking mechanism. Its front wheels are incorporated with a set of disc brakes and the rear ones get conventional drum brakes as well. This variant is blessed with an electronic power steering system, which is tilt adjustable and makes handling convenient. This steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters, which is quite good for this class.
Comfort Features:
The company has given this variant quite a few convenient aspects that gives the occupants a comfortable driving experience. It has an efficient HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioner) unit, which also has rear AC vents for cooling the spacious cabin. The responsive power steering system comes with tilt adjustable function, which makes it easier to handle even in peak traffic conditions. Apart from these, it also has floor console, illumination key ring, remote fuel lid opener and many other such aspects.
Safety Features:
Being the base variant, this Mahindra Xylo D2 BSIV is incorporated with a number of safety aspects for a stress free driving experience. It has seat belts for all occupants along with driver seat belt reminder notification on instrument panel. This trim is bestowed with adjustable seats, centrally mounted fuel tank, central locking system, door ajar warning and an engine immobilizer for safeguarding the vehicle from theft. Apart from these, the side and front impact beams protect the occupants sitting inside the cabin in case of any accidents.
