Nano 2012-2017 STD Review
Tata Nano , the world's cheapest car from the Indian auto giant Tata Motors has recently been given many cosmetic updates. The company has made quite a lot of changes to this 2013 Tata Nano to make it look more attractive. These changes have been carried out on interiors as well as exteriors. While the technical specifications remain the same as the previous version. The company had unveiled the 2013 version of Tata Nano last month at event called Horizon Next in New Delhi along with other models like Tata Indigo, Tata Indica and Tata Sumo. However, this new 2013 Tata Nano series is launched in three variants of which Tata Nano STD is the entry level version and has a reasonable price tag. This new version comes equipped with 624cc petrol engine, which promises to return a great mileage of about 25 Kmpl. Also, this engine complies with the emission norms of Bharat Stage IV. On the other hand, this four wheeler might be competing with the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon in the automobile segment.
Exterior:
The 2013 version of Tata Nano looks quite attractive compared to the previous model. The company used chrome indents in the new version of Tata Nano in order to obtain a premium finish. You can observe the chrome strip on the front and rear end of this compact car. However, these chrome indents are offered in the top end version only. Also this new version is blessed with newly designed wheel caps for added elegance. The front and rear bumpers of this small car received a few tweaks. The design of the fog lamps too received a bit of re-treatment for obtaining a youthful appeal. The company is offering the top end version of Tata Nano with few vibrant and lively exterior paint options. These include a bright Serene White finish, a vibrant Papaya Orange finish, a refreshing Neon Rush finish, a delicate Meteor Silver finish, an elegant Champagne Gold finish and also a vivacious Rogue Red metallic finish. The side profile of this small car gets body colored door handles and external rear view mirrors along with air duct on the rear wheel arch. The rear end of this 2013 Tata Nano STD gets a revamped bumper with a large air dam and grille, which makes it look sophisticated and sportier.
Interior:
The interior cabin section of this entry level trim has been offered in a dual tone based scheme. The seats and the door trims are offered in dual tone based vinyl upholstery. The dashboard comes in medium graphite scheme, while the central console is garnished in Ebony Black. This base version does not have many features inside the cabin, but still the comfort and convenience aspects inside this entry level variant are quite good. The seats are wide and provide comfortable seating for four persons. The cabin space inside this 2013 Tata Nano is quite good. The company has incorporated a two spoke steering wheel inside unlike the 3-spoke wheel offered in the other two variants. This entry level trim also gets the stylish speedometer and a digital fuel gauge. The company has offered some of the basic features on this base version, which will take care of the primary needs of occupants. Some of those basic features include a cabin lamp, front seat head rest, map pocket with driver and co-driver seats, driver side sun visor and so on. With these features, 2013 Tata Nano is surely going to perform well in the Indian automobile market.
Engine and performance:
This new 2013 Tata Nano has been equipped with the same 0.6-litre engine, which is currently powering the existing version. The company made no changes to the technicalities of its engine, which means that the 2013 Tata Nano comes with same power and fuel efficiency as its earlier version. However, this engine will now meet the Bharat Stage IV emission compliance, which is great news for car enthusiasts. This 624cc, 2-cylinder based petrol engine has the ability to churn out a maximum power output of 37.24bhp at 5500rpm and generates a peak torque output of about 51Nm at 4000rpm. This engine is incorporated with MPFI fuel supply system which enhances the fuel efficiency. On the other hand, this engine is coupled with a manual 5 speed transmission, which enables this small car to reach 105 Kmph of maximum speed.
Braking and handling:
This 2013 Tata Nano model series comes with drum brakes, which are 180mm in diameter for both the front as well as rear wheels, which works very efficiently. Furthermore, this braking mechanism is enhanced by Dual Circuit, vertical split system operated by the tandem master cylinder with vacuum booster . On the other hand, this small car comes with manual steering, which is responsive and makes it easy to maneuver in city traffic.
Safety features:
The company has incorporated some of the most important safety aspects to this cheapest car in the world. These features assures safety of the passengers and to the car as well. Some of those safety functions include center high mount stop lamps, radial tubeless tyres, booster assisted brakes, front and rear seat belts, additional body reinforcements, and intrusion beam through innovative door system design.
Comfort features:
The comfort features have been improved on this entry level variant. This small car comes with a list of comfort features which include cabin lamp, front seat headrest, headlamp leveling, rear seat folding, low fuel warning lamp, front assist grips, driver seat with slider, driver side sun visor, map pockets and few others. These features are helpful for the passengers to experience comfortable journey.
