Ertiga 2015-2022 SHVS LDI Review
Maruti Ertiga SHVS LDi is the base variant in this model line up. The multi purpose vehicle comes with a limited range of features. Although the basic design template of the car remains the same, the company has given it a couple of notable updates both inside and outside. Starting with the exterior, there is a re-vitalized design for the front portion, especially to its grille. An added element for this facet is the body colored bumper, which brings unity in its look. The rest of its outfit remains the same, with the stylish wheels, streamlined body shape and clean body lines. The inside of the vehicle is graced with some new facilities such as a 60:40 split folding seat system and a manual AC system. The previously existing comfort features add to the fulfilling nature of the passengers drive, and these include tilt steering, a a remote fuel lid opener, manually adjustable outside mirrors to name a few. Coming to the engine mechanism, there is no change in the DDiS engine that had previously been present. It is gifted with the same common rail direct injection and a 5 speed gearbox for flawless functioning. A highlight of this new version is its SHVS technology, which helps to optimise efficiency and performance. Balancing its performance is a well ordained safety section. The new version comes with a driver's side airbag which had not been present before. Also there is a seatbelt reminder buzzer and ABS for enhanced safety on roads.
Exteriors:
The overall design of the vehicle remains the same, save for minor tweaks, especially to its exteriors. The most noticeable change that the vehicle poses is its refreshed frontage. The facelift adds to the bold look of the front, with a revised image and stylish sweeping headlamps. The redesigned grille and the wide air intake section at the bottom give the vehicle a renewed look. A short radio antenna is present by the front of the roof, providing aerial reception to the cabin. The black door handles and mirrors touch a distinctive note with the car's image. There are sweeping lines by the side profile that run parallel to the roof, and they enhance the stylish persona of the vehicle. The overall structure of the MPV is balanced out with a huskier rear portion. The rear light clusters have the same shape and intricate detailing within them for the best safety value when driving. At the bottom, the black sporty exhaust system finishes off the look.
Interiors:
This MPV has an immensely spacious cabin, graced up with a luxurious design. This latest version comes with a new waterfall dashboard design that comes in a dual tone finish. The instrument display is integrated into the meter cluster. The driver avails the benefit of sporty steering wheel with the company's marque embroidered in the center. The seats are dressed in fine fabric, enhancing plush ambiance inside. Headrests are present for all of the rows, offering comfort as well as safety for the occupants.
Engine and Performance:
The car is driven by a DDiS diesel engine, comprised of 4 cylinders with 16 valves. It displaces 1248cc, which is decent for a vehicle belonging to this segment. The company has armed the engine with a common rail direct injection for efficient fuel transfer. The company has updated the new version's engine with a brake energy regeneration system, which helps to conserve the kinetic energy lost during braking and fuel performance. This helps to reduce fuel consumption and also boost its speed capacities. Altogether, the plant gives a power of 89bhp at 4000rpm, coupled with a torque of 200Nm at 1750rpm. The brand has conditioned the engine to meet BS4 emission norms, thereby yielding cleaner emissions and an improved fuel efficiency. Transmitting the power of the engine into effective performance is a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Braking and Handling:
The braking system is secured with the presence of ventilated disc units for the front brakes, along with drums for the rear. Meanwhile, the chassis arrangement has been strengthened with a McPherson strut for the front axle, and a Torsion beam for the rear axle. The electronic power assisted steering system helps to augment the control quality, while at the same time, giving a better handling for the driver.
Comfort Features:
As this is the base variant, it lacks some of the standard features that customers demand in a car. However, the company has given it numerous utility based functions. Firstly, there is a digital clock in the instrument cluster, along with a fuel consumption meter. For added utility, there is a headlamp-on warning and key-on reminder, along with a low fuel indication lamp.
Safety Features:
The anti lock braking system solidifies control by preventing skidding or loss of control. A torque assist feature adds to the drive stability. In addition to this, the vehicle comes with a lamp that functions as a door ajar reminder. Also present is a seatbelt reminder for the driver's seat, along with a low fuel warning that prevents mishaps out of fuel deficit.
Pros:
1. Eye catching exterior design.
2. Roomy cabin with seating for seven occupants.
Cons:
1. Performance is considerably weak.
2. Safety and comfort arrangements suffer a lack.

Max Torque The load-carrying ability of an engine, measured in Newton-metres (Nm) or pound-foot (lb-ft). More is better. | 200Nm@1750rpm |
No. of Cylinders ICE engines have one or more cylinders. More cylinders typically mean more smoothness and more power, but it also means more moving parts and less fuel efficiency. | 4 |
Valves Per Cylinder Valves let air and fuel into the cylinders of a combustion engine. More valves typically make more power and are more efficient. | 4 |
Valve Configuration Valve configuration refers to the number and arrangement of intake and exhaust valves in each engine cylinder. | DOHC |
Fuel Supply System Responsible for delivering fuel from the fuel tank into your internal combustion engine (ICE). More sophisticated systems give you better mileage. | CRDI |

Compression Ratio The amount of pressure that an engine can generate in its cylinders before combustion. More compression = more power. | 17.6:1 |
Turbo Charger A device that forces more air into an internal combustion engine. More air can burn more fuel and make more power. Turbochargers utilise exhaust gas energy to make more power. | Yes |
Super Charge A device that forces more air into an internal combustion engine. More air can burn more fuel and make more power. Superchargers utilise engine power to make more power. | No |
