Jazz 2009-2011 Basic Review

Honda Cars India Limited is the subsidiary of Honda Motor Company of Japan. Honda entered the Indian market in the year 1995. Honda's product portfolio includes some very famous cars of the day like Honda Brio, Honda Jazz, Honda City, Honda Civic, and Honda Accord among various others. Given the fact that Honda is known across the world for its cutting-edge technology, there is no doubt about the technology supplied to Indians by the company via its cars. In addition to that, Honda cars, in India, are built on the basic principles of futuristic design, established quality, durability, reliability and fuel-efficiency. Honda Jazz is one of the hatchback models launched by the company in the Indian market that came out in the year 2009. Since the very day when Honda made the official announcement for the launch of this hatch, Jazz became the most eagerly awaited small car of the year. And that's because not only is Jazz a luxurious hatchback, it also is the very first small car in Honda's product portfolio in India. One of the most striking details about this lavish ride is that it has all the features that usually adorn a C-segment luxury sedan, which is the very reason behind the costly nature of this hatch. It is designed on the platform of Honda City, one of the most successful cars in the Indian market and is available in the market in 3 variants named Honda Jazz Basic, Honda Jazz Select Edition and Honda Jazz X.

Honda Jazz Basic is the base variant and is powered by a 1.2-litre, 16 valve, i-VTEC petrol engine, which produces a power of 88.8bhp at the rate of 6200rpm and a torque of 110Nm at the rate of 4800rpm. The mileage delivered by this hatchback is around 14kmpl. The stylish and sporty exteriors of new Honda Jazz, with sharp lines and central bonnet ridge, attract the youth of the nation quite effortlessly. Its premium front chrome grille gives it the Honda CR-V type look and the Silver + Matt coloured headlights, alloy wheels , ellipsoidal glass area, newer tail lamp design and chrome garnishing at the rear make it all the more attractive. Other alluring features of new Honda Jazz are its leather seats, key-less entry, power steering, power windows, A/C, CD/MP3 players and automatic headlights. Honda Jazz has a dynamic style with bold exterior features. In the front, there is an aggressive chrome grille that is enclosed between the triangular headlamps and newly designed fog lamps. From the side view, body-toned side moulding, alloy wheels, ellipsoidal glass area, tail gate spoiler and corner protector makes the look of new Honda Jazz one to die for. Honda has incorporated this hatch with an aerodynamic bumper both at the front and the rear to make it look sporty. Plus, the 15 inch all-alloy wheels, the Silver + Matt coloured headlights and the rear chrome garnish further enhance the exterior appearance of the new Jazz and give it a premium look. Apart from all this, the exteriors, especially the windows, of Jazz have been so designed that the ride gets a very airy and big car feel. Honda Jazz basic is available in the market in six amazing colours including Tafeta White, Habanero Red, Crystal Black Pearl, Sherbet Blue, Deep Sapphire Blue and Alabaster Silver. Exterior dimensions of this car are 3900mm x 1695mm x 1535mm (length x width x height). It has a ground clearance of 160mm with a wheelbase of 2500mm. Front tread, which is the distance between the front left and the front right wheel, is 1490mm while the rear tread, which is the distance between the rear right and the rear left wheel, is 1475mm.

Interior

Interior of this hatchback has been draped in a very attractive and elegant beige theme. The front has a dual tone dashboard sporting the advanced instrument panel and beige upholstery, which enhances the overall visual appeal of the cabin. It is a very spacious car and provides enough headroom, legroom and shoulder room for all the passengers. The interiors of New Honda Jazz are designed to meet everything that a passenger needs by providing a variety of convenient and multi-purpose storage places. The instrument cluster of the new Jazz is Amber-coloured and has stereoscopic dials with fuel consumption indicator so that you know how much your Jazz is consuming. The three spoke steering has audio controls on it. The driver's zone has been designed in a cockpit format and every control has been kept within an easy reach of the driver to make driving a pleasure in Jazz.

Comfort Features

The comfort zone includes the power steering wheel, which allows easy driving on every kind of terrain while providing a small turn radius . Besides, the front and rear power windows can be opened and closed with a single touch of a button. Other standard features in the this car are remote fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light, accessory power outlet, vanity mirror, rear seat headrest, height adjustable front seat belts and front cup holders. It also features seat lumbar support that allows the driver or passenger to increase the pressure at the back of the seat to derive more comfort, apart from a multi-function steering wheel that helps in operating the music system , adjusting the cabin temperature and controlling various other functions directly from the steering wheel.

Engine and Performance

This Honda hatch, under its hood, carries an i-VTEC petrol engine that features a displacement of 1198cc. This 4-cylinder engine has 4 valves per cylinder in SOHC configuration with PGM-Fi fuel supply system . It churns out a maximum of 88.8bhp at the rate of 6200rpm and a peak torque of 110Nm at 4800rpm. The acceleration of this car is pretty good and we can touch a speed of 100kmph in just 11.2 seconds. The top speed of this hatchback is 165kmph. The mileage delivered is around 12.6kmpl in the city driving conditions and 16.7 on the highways . It has a fuel tank capacity of 42 litres so that you can drive a distance of 630kms on a full tank.
