The long-awaited Toyota Innova Crysta has been launched in India at INR 13.8 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). The top of the line variant is priced at INR 20.78 lakhs. We got our hands on one a couple of days ago and have a detailed review ready for you. Spotted at the 2016 Auto Expo, a lot has already been spoken about the Innova Crysta and a lot of readers already know about the MPV. Here is a recap of the important bits about the Innova Crysta you should know about.

The Looks

The Innova Crysta looks beautiful. Considering it is an MPV, the car has a long side profile, but Toyota has designed the C-pillar glass window very cleverly to make it look sharp. The Innova is now longer, wider and taller, but has the same wheelbase as the old Innova. The bigger dimensions make the car look more imposing, especially with the twin-slatted grille and big wrap-around multi-element headlights. The car rides on new seventeen-inch alloys which suit the MPV well. The rear looks sober with the big boomerang-shaped tail-lights. The width of the car is really visible in the rear profile, with the Toyota insignia and the big bumper.

The Cabin

Inside, the car is completely new. The cabin quality is impressive and the overall feel is plush. The car now features a 4.2-inch TFT screen right in the middle of the dashboard. This infotainment screen does not really fit well but gives the insides a flamboyant look. The steering is one of the most impressive features of the car. The leather-wrapped unit feels good, and has a lot of mounted controls, which cover practically all the aspects needed in a drive. The rear seats are very well designed and are fairly comfortable during long drives. The rear passengers also get the advantage of lounge lighting on the roof and a screen for the rear aircon controls.

The Drive

Powered by two all-new engines, the Innova Crysta is surprisingly good to drive. The 2.4-litre engine produces 150 PS and an impressive 343 Nm torque. Courtesy these figures, the Crysta feels really confident on the road and is a pleasing highway ride. The other mill is a 2.8-litre unit from the Fortuner. This engine has an output of 174 PS and 360 Nm, which is more than enough on any given day, under any situation. The smaller engine gets a five-speed manual transmission and the bigger mill is mated to a six-speed automatic. The automatic is really convenient for city drives and will attract a new set of buyers, a segment that is growing continuously.

Variant Engine Transmission
G 2.4-Litre 5-Speed MT
GX 2.4-Litre 5-Speed MT
GX 2.8-Litre 6-Speed AT
VX 2.4-Litre 5-Speed MT
ZX 2.4-Litre 5-Speed MT
ZX 2.8-Litre 6-Speed AT

The Crysta is an all-new Innova indeed and, might we say, a worthy successor as well. It looks new, feels premium and drives well. Priced at INR 13.8 lakhs, only time will tell whether customers accept the ‘often seen as a taxi car’ Innova as a premium car.
