Japanese automaker, Nissan is looking at strengthening its product portfolio in the country. A major chunk of car buying population is moving to two-pedal versions, and the manufacturer seems keen on capitalising on the shift.

The Terrano shares its mechanicals with its French cousin, the Renault Duster. As of now, it is available with a 104PS, 1.6-litre petrol engine and 85PS / 110PS versions of a 1.5-litre diesel motor. The automaker will be adding an automated manual transmission (AMT) to the Terrano's kitty that is likely to be offered with the most powerful version of the diesel engine.

The technology is expected to be a copy-paste job from the Renault Duster, that features a 6-speed 'Easy-R' AMT. The ZF-sourced auto box will make its way to the Nissan as well. It is key to note that the gearbox is the only 6-speed AMT on offer in the market, and also the only one to be paired with tech like traction control and hill assist. Expect these to be carried over to the Terrano as is.

Most importantly, our sources tell us that Nissan will launch the two-pedal Terrano only post Diwali. The Japanese automaker intended on unveiling it during the festive season but had to postpone the launch 'due to technical reasons'.

Prices are expected to be up by close to Rs 60,000 - Rs 80,000 for the AMT compared to the equivalently specced manual variant. The top-spec XV variant of the Terrano (which happens to be the only variant with the 110PS motor), is priced at Rs 13.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). With the inclusion of the AMT, expect prices to hover around the Rs 14.5 lakh mark.
