Lynk&Co is a sub-brand of Chinese auto major Geely, which also owns Swedish manufacturer Volvo and was responsible for its renaissance.

Lynk&Co's Debutante Vehicle

Geely’s Lynk&Co is all set for its official unveil tomorrow, i.e., October 20, 2016. The new automaker has recently released a video teasing its first model, which appears to be a crossover/SUV. No wonder, since crossovers and SUVs are all the rage these days.

There isn’t much information about Lynk&Co’s plans, positioning, line-up or the markets the brand will cater to, but the automaker has been focusing on connected tech and new in-car technologies. The automaker hopes to revolutionise mobility with its products. Even in the teaser video, Lynk&Co has showcased a bike, a smartphone, and a cloud, indicating that the crossover could offer some kind of connected tech with cloud storage.

Alain Visser, senior vice-president, Lynk&Co, explains the brand’s strategy in an official release: “In the car industry, for a century we have been so preoccupied by refining our product and production processes that we really haven’t looked beyond the trees and asked ourselves whether this is really the answer to people’s needs. To a large extent we have ignored the difference between the car as a mechanical product and the comprehensive experience.”

Volvo XC40 Concept

If reports are to be believed, Geely will position the Lynk&Co brand below Volvo in the international markets as a more affordable option, but its vehicles will come fully loaded with all the latest tech. We also expect Lynk&Co’s vehicles to borrow Volvo’s new CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform, which will underpin Volvo’s  brand-new India-bound 40-series models – the XC40 and the S40 – since Geely was involved in the development of the same. Stay tuned to CarDekho for tomorrow’s reveal.
