Honda Amaze 2018 Expert Review

Introduction

This is the all-new Honda Amaze. Everything from the chassis to the body shell, the interior design, the features, safety equipment and, very importantly, the transmission has been changed. The engines are not all-new but get improvements of their own for improved driveability, fuel efficiency and comfort. Honda says the goal for their R&D Asia Pacific department was to make a ‘one-class-above’ sub-4 metre sedan based on the feedback from both existing owners of the previous-gen sedan as well as potential customers of the all-new one.

Pros
  • Comfortable ride over all surfaces, noiseless suspension even over broken roads
  • Improved overall interior space with increased storage spaces, including 1-litre bottle holders on all doors
  • Diesel-CVT is smooth, efficient and well suited for the city
  • Long standard safety equipment list - ABS+EBD, dual airbags, ELR seatbelts, ISOFIX anchor points
  • Largest-in-segment luggage compartment, well shaped too
  • Comfortable seats front and rear, no issues seating tall passengers behind each other
Cons
  • Diesel engine is still noisy
  • Rear headroom is at a premium, fixed headrests not comfortable
  • Fit and finish issues, cost cutting is evident
  • Missing feature list - automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, projector headlamps
  • The automatic gearbox will not be offered in the top-of-the-line variants and hence misses out on cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system and rear-view camera

Stand Out Features

  • New ‘Digipad 2.0’ infotainment system is easy to use and has latest connectivity options

CarDekho Verdict

The exterior design may not appeal to everyone, the interior design, space and equipment on offer certainly will. Couple all this with one of the best ride-and-handling packages on any car in the sub-4 metre sedan segment, the Honda Amaze should feature on top of your list if you are looking to buy one in the near future.

"The 2018 Amaze feels like an all-rounder and, at least with its diesel MT/CVT variants, makes a good case for itself"
