Scorpio 2014-2022 S8 7C Seater Review

The facelifted version of Mahindra Scorpio is launched with two diesel engine options in several variants. This Mahindra Scorpio S8 7C Seater is a mid range trim in the model series that is blessed with eye catching exterior aspects. The front facade looks sporty with a newly designed headlamp cluster, large radiator grille and a revamped bumper. This new version gets a stylish set of alloy wheels, while the other aspects remain unchanged. The rear end features a trendy tail light cluster and body colored bumper. The interiors look captivating with a new dashboard that is equipped with a instrument cluster. The revised center console is fitted with an infotainment system that has a large touchscreen display. Other aspects in the cabin include power windows, air conditioning unit, tilt adjustable steering wheel and some storage spaces. There are also several comfort aspects available like rear demister, cruise control, power window switches and a few other such features. In terms of safety, there is ABS, dual front airbags and auto door lock that ensures maximum protection of its passengers. This variant is equipped with a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine that has 4-cylinders and paired with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box. It can deliver a peak power of 120bhp in combination with 280Nm torque output. The company is offering this new version in two new colors, which are Regal Blue and Molten Red apart from the existing Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Diamond White body paint options. It receives tough competition from Tata Safari, Renault Duster and a few others in the SUV segment. It has a standard warranty of 50,000 kilometers or two years, whichever is earlier along with an extended warranty for another two years.

Exteriors:

This updated model has an aggressive front facade with a large radiator grille that includes vertically positioned slats. At the center of this grille, an insignia of the company is neatly embossed. It bumper is redesigned and equipped with an air dam as well as a pair of fog lamps. The bright headlight cluster gives an attractive look to its frontage. It is integrated with high intensity projector headlamps and turn indicators. There are a couple of intermittent wipers fitted to its wide windscreen, while the bonnet includes a sporty scoop along with a few visible character lines on it. The rear end has an expressive boot lid that is further engraved with the company's emblem. The tail light cluster is redesigned and equipped with LED tail lamps. The rear windscreen is quite large and includes a wiper. Apart from these, it has a spoiler with high mount stop lamp, bumper, protective cladding and a pair of reflectors. The attractive side profile has body colored door handles, outside rear view mirrors and side step. This new version is available with a set of 17 inch alloy wheels that are covered with tubeless radial tyres of size P235/65 R17 that provide a strong grip on roads.

Interiors:

The interiors of this Mahindra Scorpio S8 7C Seater trim is simply eye catching. The cockpit includes an updated dashboard that houses a new steering wheel along with redesigned air vents that have chrome finishing. The occupants can enjoy their favorite music through the advanced infotainment system that has speakers and tweeters as well. The instrument cluster is properly positioned and equipped with some notifications. The cabin space is quite huge and it can accommodate seven people with ease. The wide and well cushioned seats are covered with cloth based upholstery. In addition to these, it has some utility based aspects like a glove box compartment, cup and bottle holders, front seat back pockets, roof lamp and front sun visors. There are also 12V charging points available in the front and second row seats, which increases the comfort levels.

Engine and Performance:

The automaker has fitted it with a powerful 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel power plant that has the displacement capacity of 2179cc. This double overhead camshaft valve configuration based mill carries 4-cylinders and sixteen valves. It is skillfully coupled with an advanced five speed manual transmission gear box. This common rail based motor is capable of producing a peak power of 120bhp at 4000rpm and at the same time, yields a maximum torque output of 280Nm in the range of 1800 to 2800rpm. This mill is capable of returning a maximum mileage of 15.4 Kmpl when driven on bigger roads.

Braking and Handling:

The braking system is quite efficient wherein, its front wheels are fitted with ventilated disc brakes and the rear ones have drum brakes. It is further assisted by anti lock braking system, which enhances this mechanism. The front axle gets a double wishbone independent suspension and the rear one is equipped with a multi link type of system and anti roll bar. These are further loaded with coil springs and hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorbers, which enhances this mechanism. On the other hand, it is bestowed with a tilt adjustable power assisted steering system, which supports a minimum turning radius of 5.6 meters.

Comfort Features:


This Mahindra Scorpio S8 7C Seater variant is packed with a long list of comfort aspects. These include voice assist system, follow me home headlamps, rear wipe and wash, headlamp leveling switch, rain and light sensors, rear demister as well as a vanity mirror. It has all four power windows with driver side auto down function. It comes with an advanced air conditioning unit that cools the cabin and offers additional comfort. There are cruise control and audio functions mounted on the steering wheel, which makes it quite easy for the driver to use them. There are armrests available in the front individual seats, remote fuel lid opener and a center armrest in the second row seat. Moreover, it is blessed with a 2-DIN audio unit that has a large touchscreen display. It features a CD, MP3 player and supports USB port as well.
