Scorpio 2014-2022 1.99 S4 Review
Mahindra Scorpio S4 7 Seater is a mid range trim in its model series that is incorporated with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel power plant. This engine is capable of generating 120bhp in combination with 280Nm torque output, which is quite good considering the Indian road conditions. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box and helps in returning a maximum mileage of 15.4 Kmpl. This facelifted version is introduced with redesigned interior aspects like a new dashboard and stylish instrument cluster. The cabin also includes a tilt adjustable steering wheel, fabric upholstered seats and many storage spaces. The exteriors also get an attractive look with new aspects like the trendy headlight cluster, sleek bonnet, refurbished bumper and a bold radiator grille at front. The rear end is designed with a radiant tail light cluster, tailgate with black colored appliqué on it and has a modified windscreen, which gives it a stylish look. The side profile includes external mirrors and a stylish set of 17 inch steel wheels that are covered with radial tyres. On the safety front, this trim is loaded with aspects like a collapsible steering column, digital immobilizer and has central locking system. The company is offering it in two new colors, which are Regal Blue and Molten Red apart from the existing Mist Silver, Fiery Black and Diamond White body paint options. This SUV has a standard warranty of 50,000 kilometers or 2-years, whichever is earlier. This can be further increased for another 2-years at an extra cost. The major competitors in the market include Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Tata Safari Storme in this segment.
Exteriors:
This vehicle has a robust body structure that is equipped with many notable aspects. It is designed with an overall length of 4456mm and has a decent width of 1820mm (excluding the outside rear view mirrors). It has a total height of 1995mm, while its wheelbase measures 2680mm, which is quite good . The front fascia has a bold radiator grille with vertically positioned slats and includes an insignia of the company on it. The headlight cluster is in a new design and equipped with high intensity headlamps as well as turn indicators. It has hydraulic assisted bonnet looks more attractive with a sporty scoop and a few visible character lines on it. The large windscreen offers a better view to the driver ahead and is integrated with a couple of intermittent wipers. The black colored bumper is also tweaked and has a protective cladding underneath it. The side profile looks decent with a side step, door handles as well as outside rear view mirrors. It has neatly carved wheel arches that are fitted with a conventional set of 17 inch steel wheels that are covered with high performance tubeless radial tyres of size P235/65 R17 that offer an excellent grip on roads. The rear end too receives some modified aspects like a bright taillight cluster, black tailgate cladding, number plate applique as well as a black colored bumper. Interiors:
This Mahindra Scorpio S4 7 Seater variant is blessed with an attractive internal cabin that has huge space and accommodates seven people with ease. Its well cushioned seats provide maximum comfort to its occupants and these are covered with vinyl and fabric combination upholstery. The leg room is quite good owning to its large wheelbase, while the shoulder space is also sufficient. The newly designed dashboard gives a refreshing look and it houses a tilt adjustable steering wheel, glove box and a center console. The steering wheel has company's insignia embossed on it, which makes it look more appealing. The cabin includes a few utility based aspects and there are storage spaces on center console that are useful for placing small things. Besides these, it has 12V charging points that are present in the first and middle row seats using which, occupants can charge their phones. The notifications on instrument panel like driver seat belt warning lamp, fuel consumption display, door open indicator and a few others makes it quite convenient for the driver.
Engine and Performance:
It is equipped with a 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel power plant that can displace 2179cc. This double overhead camshaft valve configuration based mill has four cylinders and 16 valves. It is integrated with a common rail direct injection system and skillfully paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box. This motor can produce a maximum power of 120bhp at 4000rpm and yields 280Nm peak torque output in the range of 1800 to 2800rpm. This motor helps in returning a maximum mileage of 15.4 Kmpl on expressways, which is quite good.
Braking and Handling:
This variant is bestowed with an efficient braking system wherein, its front wheels are fitted with ventilated disc brakes and the rear ones get drum brakes. The front axle is affixed with a double wishbone independent suspension, while the rear one is assembled with a multi link type of system as well as anti roll bar. These are also fitted with coil springs and hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorbers that boosts this mechanism. This vehicle has a hydraulic power assisted steering system with tilt adjustment function. It is highly responsive and helps the steer the vehicle with ease even during heavy traffic conditions.
Comfort Features:
This trim is blessed with a few comfort features like headlamp leveling switch, tilt adjustable steering wheel as well as remote fuel lid opener. It has an HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) unit along with rear air vents that helps in keeping the cabin cool .
