GLE 2015-2020 43 AMG Coupe Review
Mercedes-Benz has claimed a massive fan base in India, with a build royalty that few brands have ever displayed before. Although its niche of over-extraordinary luxury models have wooed countless enthusiasts in the country, the brand is constantly reinvigorating its flavour of build to cater to newer generations. A hand-picked example of this ever-flowing state of evolving architecture is the Coupe version of the premium SUV model, GLE. Here is a vehicle that combines two systems of design that are supposed to be at odds with each other. On one hand, the Coupe brings a masculine and powerful visual figure to the mind of the viewer, seeming to cast its menace over any street where it prowls. At the same time, it has been effectively undercut with softer, plush themes, giving it a well balanced, feminine theme. We at Cardekho lay-out the many facets of the vehicle step by step, making it easier for you to understand where this vehicle scores big and where it loses out.
Pros:
1. Most would consider it to be among the most attractive models of its segment, and this would be generally agreeable considering the vehicle's graceful posture, expensive highlights and other noticeable features.
2. It is needless to say that the car's features are exhaustive and un-contained, ranging from comfort and convenience to entertainment.
Cons:
1. We would caution you that the handling of the machine takes a slight toll as an effect of its size and heft, although it isn't too off the mark.
2. For someone looking for thrill and performance, it might come as bit of a let-down.
Overview:
The GLE had made it big in markets all over the world, and the company's release of this variant in Indian territory reflects promise and confidence. The Coupe takes the success of this model series, and gives it a more refined standard. On the outside, it gives you the impression of any luxury branded vehicle, but we've got to stress that the streamlined posture adds to the beauty of the design. On the inside, a host of exclusively made features await you, from the delicate upholstery to the advanced multi-display navigation system. All in all, the vehicle's numerous sections interact to give any car lover a lasting experience.
Exteriors:
The front area has been mildly revised in its look, making for only a loose resemblance of the other variants. The conventional Mercedes-Benz grille stretches all across the front section, and the large star at the centre sends out an aggressive effect. The company seems to have a good understanding of the love of chrome among us Indians, and this shows in the shimmering highlights placed on many regions of the front and the side. The headlamps on either side are sharper than the conventional version, and they are intricately detailed for a more powerful visual effect when driving. It is quite stunning the way the polished metallic skin slides down and forms the bumper. We found the slender layout of the air dams to fit into the layout of the front with utmost perfection. Coming to the sides, the large fenders instantly grab your attention, while the stylish wheels are factors that further reinforce this effect. There are serene design lines around the door sides, creating a more ambient effect which further enhances the vehicle's look. Perhaps the most sensational element of the car's exterior, in our opinion, is the well sculpted rear portion. The car's roof tapers down towards the rear, blending right into the image with a dab of sportiness.
Interiors:
We found out that the cabin is a little less spacious compared to its rivals, but what the car lacks in space, it makes up for it with its enriched features. We were definitely awed by the powerful atmosphere that the vehicle brings out through its artistic layout, plush treatment and clever alignment. At the front, the steering wheel and the surrounding instruments have been closely aligned, giving the man behind the wheel a more comfortable experience. The star on the steering wheel and the other chrome elements placed on it elevate the cabin's build condition. The instrument panel comes along with a large screen that juts out at the top, and we're sure this might cast a lighter tone for the entire atmosphere. The seats have been designed with firm ergonomics, and few people might face discomfort with them. The rich leather upholstery would definitely take some by surprise. Meanwhile, the headrests and hand rests also facilitate comfort for the passengers, providing a luxurious and hassle free long drives.
Performance:
The new version comes along with a 3.0-litre petrol engine that is armed with a turbocharger for improved speed characteristics. As for the specifications, this model goes well ahead of others in the segment, with a power of 362bhp and a thumping 516Nm torque. Propulsion from the engine is channelled through a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, and this is definitely a bonus for the average driver. Altogether, the fact that the massive machine can soar from 0 to 100kmph in 5.6 seconds tells you enough about its engine and power qualities.
Ride and Handling:
This is a company that boasts some of the most advanced technology, and when seated in here, one is sure to be hit by the uniqueness of the drive. Advanced aids such as the anti lock braking system, acceleration skid control and electronic stability program together bolster control when driving, ensuring that little is left amiss for you to worry about. The strong discs that have been rigged onto the wheels make a good show of braking, and stopping is both effective and smooth. The suspension was strong enough to take on the ruthless Indian roads, although nothing can be done about occasional jerks and bumps which are expected on Indian terrains.
Safety:
We were quite impressed with the range of facilities that the brand had incorporated to shield its occupants. From airbags to strong seatbelts to advanced aid programs such as downhill speed regulator, brake assist and many others, the car enables its occupants to enjoy a safe and peaceful ride. Out of the ordinary facilities such as reversing cameras, parking assists, an electric parking brake and many others also inundate the driver, making sure that no stone is left unturned in terms of providing a secure ride.
Verdict:
The Coupe gives some, and takes some away. It's no overstatement to say that the vehicle offers an exhaustive range of thrills for its occupants, from the cosmetic elements to the comfort and entertainment benefits. However, all of this comes at a huge price which will take a toll on your bank balance. So at the end of the day, if you're the type that just doesn't compromise and settle for second, this is the machine to suit you. But if you're one with a tight budget, steer well clear of this vehicle.
