Mulsanne 6.8 Review
The Bentley Mulsanne is one of the most recognized models built by the British automaker. The new model was launched in 2010, a luxury car that came with strong promise. It is currently available as Bentley Mulsanne 6.8 in the Indian automobile market. The car is powered by a mighty V8 engine, which allows for impressive performance capacities, especially for the class that it comes under. Turning to the lighter side, it has a wide and majestic stance, meant to cast a powerful presence wherever it travels. The company has detailed the car's exteriors with elements of luxury that make it distinct in its design. Coming to the interiors, the car offers a lavish environment for the passengers to travel in. The seating arrangement is built on the comfort needs of the passengers. A range of fine materials together enrich the cabin, ensuring that the ride is kept pleasant and burden free. In addition to this, there are facilities aimed at providing entertainment and improving the ride quality.
Exteriors:
The vehicle has a classy body structure with hefty build and imposing looks. It stretches for an overall length of 5575mm, which bestows it a spacious and wide appearance. Its width, including the outer mirrors, is 2208mm. Its height is 1521mm, harmonious with all other aspects of the body. Lastly, a wheelbase of 3266mm ensures that the cabin is spacious and uncompromising. At the front, the iconic Bentley matrix grille covers the radiator, finished in eye-catching polished stainless steel. Flanking this are large headlamps that bear the company's characteristic design. The company has gifted the front lights with Bi-Xenon light systems along with an LED main beam support function. The vehicle's exterior design is based on an advanced superforming technology that makes it sturdy. The body hosts sharp and sweeping lines that add value to its graceful appearance. The body details go along with 20 inch alloy wheels that add elegance to the side facet. Surrounding them, the wheel fenders have a salient design. Beside all of this, the company offers the vehicle with added options. The front wings have the option of being adorned with ‘Flying B’ style wing vents, as a part of the the Milliner Driving Specification. Also available as an option is the trademark ‘Flying B’ radiator mascot, which adds a distinguishing touch to the car.
Interiors:
The cabin is suited for a blend of luxury and passenger comfort. The seat arrangement ensures comfort and space for all of the passengers. Premium upholstery covers the seats. The passengers get the benefit of handrests at the center, and by the door sides allowing convenient arm placement. Headrests are present for all of the seats, offering support for the passengers' heads and necks throughout the drive. The steering wheel is attractively designed and adds to the elegance of the cabin. The emblem of the company is perched at the center of the steering wheel. It also gets control switches for ease of accessibility. Meanwhile, the fascia is enhanced with the addition of fine veneer, and there are eight varieties of veneer trims available as option. The continuous ‘ring of wood’ waist rails further improve the lavish quality of the cabin. The rear center console along with roof come with unique color options of Burr Walnut. The dashboard is wrapped in leather with perfect thickness. The Infotainment screen that it surrounds can be concealed behind a veneered panel when not required. The folding rear center armrest console has controls for the seating adjustment and the air conditioning unit.
Engine and Performance:
The vehicle is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that has a displacement capacity of 6752cc. This engine can generates a peak power of 505bhp at 4200rpm, and a max torque of 1020Nm at 1750rpm. It is paired with an 8 speed transmission for smooth shifting and optimum performance. Altogether, the vehicle touches a top speed of 296kmph. It can accelerate from naught to 100kmph in 5.3 seconds, which is a good considering its size and build. Coming to the field of fuel economy, this engine enables the vehicle to deliver a mileage of 6.8kmpl.
Braking and Handling:
The vehicle has refined standards for all aspects of its build, including the braking and handling systems. It gets superior disc brakes with black painted calipers. Meanwhile, the suspension of the vehicle is gifted with air springs with continuous damping control, reducing road anomalies and improving comfort during the drive.
Comfort Features:
Its cabin gets a 14-speaker sound system that comes along with Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Also available as an option is a Naim sound system, which includes 20 speakers with 22 channels amplifier and 2200 watts capacity for the most fulfilling musical experience for the passengers. Also, a 'Comfort Entry System' provides pre-programmed configurations for more than one driver. Furthermore, there is an optional neck warmer feature, which provides for a warm air flow to the passengers' necks through a vent below the headrests. The rear center armrest console holds a leather-lined stowage compartment in it, along with a 12V charging socket for charging devices inside the car.
Safety Features:
The car is fulfilled on all standard safety norms. It provides airbags for the safety of the passengers in case of emergencies. Seatbelts are present to keep the passengers well restrained, protecting them from the dangers of speed. A drive dynamics control function exists, through which, the driver can choose preferences regarding the suspension and the power steering as well. Furthermore, anti lock braking system enables a good level of control when braking. This is present along with the electronic brakeforce distribution system and hydraulic brake assist functions. The electronic stability control facility works to improve the drive safety and eliminate potential drive hazards. Traction control is also present, ensuring improved drive stability. The rear seat has ISOFIX child seat fixings with top tether points, giving special attention to the safety needs of children. A direct tyre pressure monitoring system is also present, keeping the driver aware of the tyre condition for reduced risks when driving. A vehicle immobilizer is also present, enabling security for the vehicle in addition to all of this.
