Grand i10 2013-2016 Asta Review
The Hyundai Grand i10 Asta is the second top petrol variant introduced by the South Korean auto major in its model series, positioned below the Asta Option. It powers 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine. The company has rolled out this new trim after launching quite a few variants a few weeks before. The company claims that this hatchback series is one of the most fuel efficient in its class. The company has fitted some of the most exciting features to this variant including a reverse parking sensor, an engine immobilizer system, a central locking system and various others. The company also blessed this variant with an integrated 2-DIN audio system that comes with Radio, CD/MP3 player, USB, AUX-In socket and Bluetooth connectivity. This music system also comes with 1GB internal memory, which will add to the excitement of the owner. The exterior design and structure of this new Hyundai Grand i10 is quite attractive with striking frontage and a stylish rear profile. As far as the interiors are concerned, it has a dual tone beige and black color scheme along with blue interior illumination. There is no doubt that driving experience of the car is truly commendable both on city and highway roads.
Exteriors :
Coming to the styling and design aspects, this new Hyundai Grand i10 Asta trim has a fascinating exterior structure along with a captivating front, side and rear profiles. The car has sleek headlight cluster incorporated with powerful headlamps. In the centre there is a small radiator grille, which is incorporated with a horizontal strip along with the company logo garnished in chrome affixed on it. Below this, the company has fitted a body colored bumper that is designed with a large air dam, which is surrounded by a pair of fog lamps. Coming to the side profile, the looks very stylish nicely designed gates and wheel arches. The outside door handles have been accentuated in chrome, while the outside door mirrors have been painted in body color. This particular variant gets the silver alloy wheels, which further complements the sporty side profile. The rear profile of this hatchback is very stylish with a body colored bumper, a sporty rear spoiler, a high mounted stop lamp etc. The rear profile will remind you of Hyundai Veloster that the company sells in several global markets. The roof rails further add to its style and elegance, while the reflectors fitted to the bumper will enhance the safety.
Interiors :
The interior cabin of this top end trim absolutely plusher and more elegant than most of the car it is in competition with. The company has given a 2-tone beige and black interior color scheme with blue illumination to this variant. The gear-shift knob along with the door handles have been accentuated in chrome, while the steering wheel has been covered with premium leather upholstery. The three spoke steering wheel has been equipped with audio and call function buttons, which will add to the convenience while driving. On the other hand, the instrument panel fitted to the dashboard offers more information to the driver regarding gear shift, fuel levels, average vehicle speed, engine running time, door and tailgate ajar and so on. The cabin space is ample where at least five passengers can have a comfortable seating. There are number of utility functions incorporated inside this particular trim such as a glove box, a vanity mirror, front and rear door map pockets, front room lamp and so on.
Engine and Performance :
When it comes to the technical specifications, this Hyundai Grand i10 Asta variant comes equipped with an advanced 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol power plant that can produce 1197cc of displacement capacity. This engine has been designed with four cylinders and 16-valves that allows it to produce a peak power of about 81.9bhp at 6000rpm, while yielding 113.8Nm of peak torque output at 4000rpm. This Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine is coupled to an advanced 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that enables the front wheels to derive engine power and return a peak mileage of about 18.9kmpl , which is rather decent.
Braking and Handling :
All the variants of the Grand i10 get a proficient braking mechanism that offers precise braking when needed. The front wheels have been fitted with the disc brakes, while the rear wheels have drum brakes. On the other hand, this model series has been bestowed with a motor driven (electric) power steering system that makes the steering respond smoothly at all speeds as per the requirement. Furthermore, its robust suspension system will enhance the stability of the vehicle, while improving the driving comfort.
Comfort Features :
The comfort features offered with the Grand i10 Asta trim are more than enough, considering the price it comes at. The company has designed this hatchback with passenger comforts in their mind and bestowed it with some sophisticated functions. The list of comfort features include a manual air conditioner with heater, tinted glass, power steering, power windows with driver side auto down function, electrically foldable and adjustable external wing mirrors, a passenger vanity mirror, a rear parcel tray, a cooled glove box, push button start/stop function, driver seat height adjustable function and few others . This particular trim also has an advanced 2-DIN music player with USB port and an AUX-In interface along with Bluetooth connectivity with control buttons mounted on the steering wheel.
Safety Features :
The company has given a bunch of safety features to ensure top level security to all the occupants and to this car as well. This trim has been equipped with some of the advanced protective functions, which include an central locking system, a highly advanced engine immobilizer system, a smart key less entry, a reverse parking sensor, a rear defogger, a pair of front fog lamps, day and night inside rear view mirror and several other such features. However, the Asta misses out on some very important safety features like ABS and airbags.
Pros :Contemporary body style and structure; interior design and comfort features.
Cons :It loses out on some key safety features; fuel economy is comparatiely lesser than arch rivals.
