Introduction

The XUV500 is Mahindra’s first and most impactful launch in the premium SUV segment. While the brand was traditionally known for basic, go-anywhere utility vehicles, the XUV500 helped Mahindra establish itself as a brand that’s capable of catering to more discerning customers.

By offering a lot of features and aggressive styling, Mahindra’s flagship SUV became a popular choice among buyers looking to upgrade from a Scorpio/Safari or even sedans like the Honda City or Hyundai Verna. Here’s a look at what the cheetah has to offer.

Pros
  • Loaded with features (touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, projector headlights, sunroof etc).
  • 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine offers great performance. The XUV500 is a very popular highway tourer.
  • Extensive safety package (up to 6 airbags offered, all-wheel disc brakes, ESP, traction control, ABS etc).
Cons
  • Average interior quality for the price. The cabin hasn’t been significantly updated since the XUV500 was introduced in 2011.
  • Cramped 3rd row seat. Boot space with the rear seats up is negligible.

Stand Out Features

  • Mahindra Blue Sense app - enables control of the entertainment system and climate control through your smartphone.

CarDekho Verdict

The XUV500 comes across as one of the most value-for-money and well-rounded packages on offer in its segment. It’s intimidating design makes it appealing to most Indian buyers and it offers a lot of features right from the base variant. Additionally, it’s available with a wide range of powertrain options (4x2 MT, 4x2 AT, AWD MT, AWD AT) that make it reach out to a wide range of buyer needs.

"The XUV500 comes across as one of the most value-for-money and well-rounded packages on offer in its segment."

It does have drawbacks like the average interior quality, poor boot space and steering that lacks any feel, but it still gives you a lot of bang for buck and makes a strong case for you to consider.
