Figo highlights

Ford has started testing the mid-cycle update/facelift model of the second-gen Figo in Brazil. It is expected to come with a subtly reworked exterior and an updated interior with Ford SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system. Check out more details here

Not so long ago, Ford introduced the Sportier ‘S’ version of the hatchback, the Ford Figo S, in April 2017. The Ford Figo Sports features a retuned suspension setup and bigger tyres for relatively better handling and stability, while mechanically, it remains the same. Also on offer are go-fast aesthetic additions such as a new mesh grill, dual-tone paint schemes, decals and red interior upholstery stitching and leather wrapped steering wheel.

Priced in the range of Rs 4.80 - 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Ford Figo is available in a total of 13 variants (seven petrol and six diesel). It features three engines (two petrol and one diesel) and two transmission options. There's a 1.2-litre (88PS/111Nm) and a 1.5-litre petrol (112PS/136Nm) engine on offer along with a 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/215Nm). A 5-speed manual is standard with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine comes exclusively with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The Ford Figo delivers a claimed mileage of 18.16kmpl and 25.83kmpl for the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel, respectively. The 1.5-litre petrol automatic delivers 17kmpl.

As far as safety features are concerned, the Ford Figo comes with driver airbag as standard (dual-airbags standard from the second trim onwards), while the top variants get segment-first six airbags. ABS and EBD are standard from the mid trim onwards and are optional in the second trim. Also on offer are, SYNC voice guided audio system, climate control, ESP and TC (1.5-litre automatic petrol) among others.

The Ford Figo primarily goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 along with other B-segment hatchbacks. Ford is expected to launch a cross-hatch version of the Figo probably early next year. It was recently spied testing in the county. Check out more info here.

I am a fan of ford cars. After icon shifted to Figo diesel in 2011.The only reason to shift to a smaller car is to take advantage of mileage. Experienced amazing stability and smoothness even at 120 KM/Hr speed. I have driven 90000kms in last 5 odd years and have done a number of long trips. The longest trip was to Mumbai. I never felt any strain even after driving for 1100 kms in 14 Hrs with one Hr break for lunch. I being an automobile engineer and handling different vehicles for the last 30 y... 10

Ford Figo review

The Figo enters it’s second generation, taking over the reins from what was Ford’s most successful hatch in the country. The 2015 iteration is more powerful, safer and looks as modern as it should. Let’s take a quick look at what the little Ford has to offer.

Things We Like in Figo

  • Safety - dual airbags standard, 6 airbags on the top-spec
  • 100 PS Diesel engine is frugal as well as fun to drive.
  • Proportions. Just the right size for the city.

Things We Don't Like in Figo

  • Automatic not offered in the top-spec variant, thus misses out on some good-to-have features.
  • Interior quality isn’t the best, feels flimsy. Rivals like the Grand i10 have much better interiors.
  • Petrol motor lacks punch. Strictly an intra-city runabout.

Stand Out Features

  • Six-airbags is a segment benchmark. Unheard of in a sub 10 lakh rupee hatchback.

  • Ford MyKey: Programmable second key to set a speed limit; volume limit. Unique to the Figo. Useful when you want to hand the car to someone who’s just learnt how to drive.

CarDekho Verdict

The Ford Figo makes for a nice city commuter. In different guises, it offers convenience, frugality and is fun to drive too. There are certain inconsistencies in quality both on the inside and out; but it isn’t a deal breaker in any manner whatsoever. The Figo is a well - rounded hatch for the city.

"The Figo is a well - rounded hatch for the city."

The petrol engines are refined and will lap up the city commutes with ease. If ‘Fun To Drive’ is a must-have on your checklist for the next car, the diesel is the one for you. Overall, the Figo comes across as a really competitive alternative to the Grand i10, Bolt and the Swift.
