Chevrolet Beat Expert Review

Introduction

The Chevrolet Beat came in as a breath of fresh air in 2009. It looked funky, packed in quite a bit of kit for the time and was peppy enough for the city too. Sadly, Chevrolet hasn’t done much to update the Beat over the years. Other than a minor facelift that got updated bumpers, practically everything has remained identical since launch. Should you consider buying the little Chevy? Let’s find out -

Pros
  • Compact proportions and light controls make it just right for the city
  • Can comfortably seat four occupants
  • Goodies such as dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, automatic climate control etc. on offer
  • The diesel motor is quite frugal. ARAI-rated efficiency = 25.44kmpl
Cons
  • Tiny 170-litre boot doesn’t take in much luggage.
  • Noise and vibration levels on the diesel could’ve been better controlled
  • No automatic variant on offer
  • Petrol engine lacks outright grunt for highway trips

Stand Out Features

  • Superbike inspired instrument cluster looks funky and cool

CarDekho Verdict

The Chevrolet Beat is a nippy runabout for the city thanks to its tiny footprint and light steering. We’d pick the diesel for its superior mileage, and power.

"If you need a quick little hatch for your errands, the Beat needs to be on your consideration list."

That said, the hatchback is due for an upgrade pretty soon, which is likely to bump up its kitty of features substantially. If you need a quick little hatch for your errands, the Beat needs to be on your consideration list.
