Volkswagen Vento shares its engines with Skoda Rapid, the car gets the same 1.6-litre MPI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel motors. The Diesel Volkswagen Vento’s 1.5 litre TDi unit that develops a maximum power output of 103.5bhp @ 4400 rpm with a peak torque of 250 Nm @1500-2500 rpm on it while the 1.6 litre MPI unit makes 103.5bhp of power @ 5250 rpm but produces different torque of 153 Nm @ 3800 rpm on tap. On the hand, a 1.2 litre TSI engine mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox. Volkswagen engineers have tuned the engines in a way that the power comes in a better way. The diesel, which is torquier, is also the quicker between the two, the power starts earlier and gets stronger in the mid ranges and you will also like the crispy high ranges. On the other hand, the petrol engine has also been tuned quite well, it is responsive and refined, however it don’t feel revv free when it is the 1.6 litre MPI though the 1.2 litre TSI is a zippy one. The diesel engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 7 speed DSG AT, similarly the petrol engine too comes with a choice of two; a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic.
