Honda Description :

Headquartered in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the Indian arm of Honda Motor Company Ltd. first entered the country in December 1995 through a joint venture, called as Honda Siel Cars India Ltd., that was signed between its parent company from Japan and Usha International of Siddharth Shriram Group. Responsible for the production, marketing and export of passenger cars in India, this majorly-owned subsidiary of Honda turned into a wholly-owned wing of the Japanese auto-giant in August 2012, when Honda bought out the entire 3.16% stake that Usha International held in it. Following this change in ownership, the JV's name was also changed to Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL).

Having inherited the legacy of an automobile manufacturer that is known around the world for its cutting edge technology and futuristic designs, Honda India has excelled in bringing the best tools and technologies in the cars that it offers in the country's market. For years now, Honda of Japan has been building more than 14 million internal combustion engines on an annual basis, each of which has been a true masterpiece of automobile engineering. That's the reason why the Japanese car-major today ranks at the Numero Uno position when it comes to listing the most reliable car engine makers of the world. Not only that, in 2001, Honda occupied the stand of the second largest automaker of Japan whereas in 2011, it stood at the eighth position amongst the largest automobile manufacturers of the world behind General Motors, Volkswagen Group, Toyota, Hyundai Motor Group, Ford, Nissan and PSA.

In India too Honda has always been counted amidst the most successful automakers that the country has ever seen. Having provided the domestic car market with some of the most exotic premium cars of all time, Honda has built itself a huge fan following in India. And to cater to the ever-rising demands of these fanatics, two state-of-the-art production facilities have been established by Honda in India. While the first of these manufacturing units was set up at Greater Noida, U.P., in 1997 spread across an area of 150 acres and involving a giant investment of Rs 4.5 billion, the second plant which is situated in Tapukara, Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, covering an even bigger ground space of 450 acres and involving an even heftier investment of Rs 7.8 billion, was inaugurated in September 2008.

While the Greater Noida plant offers an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, the Tapukara facility displays the potential for production of a total of 50,000 units on an annual basis. Besides contributing massively to the production capacity of the manufacturer, the Tapukara unit also provides an ultra-modern Powertrain and Press shop and operates operates under the ISO 9001 standard for quality management and ISO 14001 for environment management, which further accentuates the excellence of Honda cars in India. To handle sales and distribution of the huge volume of cars that it manufactures every year, Honda has put together an equally widespread sales network in India. Working on the format of the "3S Facility", offering complete range of Sales, Services and Spares services to customers, this extensive network comprises of 150 authorised dealerships spanning across 97 Indian cities.

Apart from owning a huge manufacturing base and establishing a widespread sales network, HCIL has also made available other facilities and services for its customers to further enrich their ownership experience. Included amongst these are Honda Assure, which is an intelligently-designed, hassle-free insurance program for Honda customers, and Auto Terrace, which is Honda's Exchange and Pre-Owned car division, meant to assist those customers who wish to exchange their existing cars for new Hondas. Together, all these services, plants and facilities have made the total investment of Honda in India exceed the staggering mark of Rs 16.2 billion.
