What are those that are lacking in Thar that are there in a foreign vehicles? Foreign could be USA or Zimbabve... Please specify. It helps me a lot as i am planning to buy this and I love the way it looks..itsa retro looking and remembers my childhood travels in this with my father( he had Willey as well as Mahindra) Please specify the short comings. Cost is around 15000 USD. Please keep this also in mind before giving the short comings... Hope we do not have serious safety issues with Thar.Everything else We can compromise!!! Out dated design...rough welding spots every where.....Mahindra still feels that Power Steeering is not a necessity. Very bad

I feel, Mahindra thar got attractive and real boysh looks, and it can be compare with gypsy, but its quite cheaper in price than gypsy. Definitely we cant compare it with Jeep wrangler etc but at this price such look, seems really worth.

in coming days i m planing to buy thar 4x4 and it seems preety cool for me,if u guys compare that with jeep wrangler its not fair,u have to see the price and look as well .

i have been using the same kind of mahindra jeeps since 1988 i mean to say Mahindra 540 and then 550. i have always complusion to use such a jeep who is badly made and wrongly fitted body on it's chassis. You run Gypsy ( forget the runing cost of fuel as i am just comparing the quality) on same rough roads and run Mahindra vehicles on same route you will absorve that gypsy is at least 10 times better the any Mahindra Product in terms of reliability and repair and maintanance cost. If mahindra can adress to issues by providing the solid body structure and reliable breaking with no leakeges fron Engine, Gear boxes Etc then it is worth buying such kind of vehicle other wise you shoul have time to waste for repearing and good friend ship with Mechanics.

I was very disappointed on seeing the new Thar at the AML showroom,Banjara Hills,Hyderabad.It looked exactly like the MM 540! Even the showroom execs seemed to be so ashamed of the new Thar that they had kept it in the basement of the showroom,that too right at the back!The execs themselves said`Sir,it is just a jeep with doors!'So the Thar shown on the net seems to be a figment of imagination.If Mahindras are serious about selling their new product in cities,then they have to show the best versions of the Thar in their showrooms,just like in these pictures.Otherwise,it will be again consigned to the rural market like it's predecessor.What a pity!Especially since there exists such a huge market in the cities,people who are bored of the hundreds of hatchbacks scuttling around,and who are desperately looking for a change!

No much change in appearance

A Wrangler costs about US$ 22K for which you get a real automobile. for about US$ 15K, Mahindra offers an underpowered piece of rusting metal. Maybe they'll force the Indian armed forces to pick up their entire production.

Was hoping Mahindra introduced the civilian model of Axe instead of the Thar, which is basically 550/540 with a New Engine. And wonder which part made it costlier than Bolero which also can be fitted to 4X4 and has Hmm. And with Maruti Jimny which looks like improved version of Jypsy just in the corner, will wait for couple of months for it

I am also looking to buy it. Somehow getting tempted by its look very close to Wrangler. Is there any other vehicle similar to wrangler in India.

It looks quite better than other old model mahindra jeep.But i still want it to look like other foreign jeep like wrangler

Mahindra Thar, i don't knw what they think because its the same old stuff and nothing much to talk about expect the new engine. It is a jus basic 4x4 jeep, jus having 4x4 does'nt mean its a true-off-road jeep....it does not hav any basic features in terms of comfort & off-road abilities...

not for value of money ,not of comfort & features & economy,best powerful engine & suspension

can somebody please confirm to me. i read in one of the reviews above that the thar is not fitted with a power steering. is it true?? can it be possible that in these days of technology, still power steering is considered an additional option??

I have been wanting a jeep since I drove 540. almost 10 years before Thar I could only just admire watching it on the road when other drive theirs.The cost is high and mileage is low. So I think it is a jeep not for the middle class as they have a change to only watch and enjoy.

thar was intoduced just to show they can still make 4WD otherwise just avg,M&M are interested in bolero,scorpio& xylo only
