Santa Fe 2009-2013 4X2 Review

The ever-expanding garage of Hyundai India rolls out one of its most exciting locomotives yet: the Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 – a crossover SUV that is endowed with not just spectacular looks but also with numerous features enhancing safety and comfort. The exteriors as well as interiors have a fresh look while at the same time, under the hood, the Santa Fe 4X2 has been fitted with an efficient diesel engine that delivers good mileage, and ensures great in-the-cabin entertainment and a joyful drive.

Exteriors

Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 has some very unique features as part of its exterior. Fog lamps and lower bumper inserts are provided at both the front and the rear of the car. In addition to this, there are projection headlamps, roof rails and a rear spoiler with high mounted stop lamp. The car has been given a powerful set of 18-inch alloy wheels and has been accessorised with a body coloured front grille with chrome embellishments and chrome tipped twin exhausts, which help in lending sturdiness to the car. There is a roof mounted micro antenna for the lovers of the radio. Furthermore, to make the car look aesthetically appealing it has been provided with body coloured outside mirror housing. In addition to this, the outside door handles with chrome insert are body coloured too. 

Interiors

Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 comes packed with numerous exciting interior features. Apart from comfortable leather seats and trim as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel, the gear knob in the vehicle has a leather and metal finish too. Metal finish also features on the inside door handles and inserts on the doors and dashboard. On the other hand, the interior inserts differ in that they have wood finish. Moreover, Hyundai Santa Fe 4x2 comes equipped with useful features such as Blue LED illumination and rear defogger. The 2 tone beige interiors give the inside of the car a plush look. Engine and performance

Running on a 2.2-litre, CRDi diesel engine, Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 has the capability to produce a maximum of 194.3bhp at 3800 rpm and a maximum torque of 420.7Nm at 1800-2500 rpm. The engine can effectively displace 2199cc and it has the capacity to hold 70 litres of fuel . The transmission is manual. The in-line engine has 4 cylinders and 4 valves per cylinder with a DOHC valve configuration. The fuel supply system is Common Rail Direction Injection. There are no super chargers or turbo chargers. To increase the performance of this two-wheel drive, the engine here has been coupled with the smart and very impressive 6-speed automatic transmission. The car is built to provide a mileage of 11.33 kmpl in the city and an increased mileage of 14.66 kmpl on the highways . Significantly, the pick-up of the SUV is bankable and the acceleration is quite competent as well. The automobile has been tested to reach the speed of 0-100kmph in 11.2 seconds . Also significant is that Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 can reach an overall top speed of 182 kmph.

Braking and handling

While the front brakes of Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 are of the ventilated disc type, the rear brakes are of solid disc type. These brakes are further amplified by the presence of an Anti-Lock Braking System , Electronic Brake-force Distribution system and Brake Assist. The handling of the SUV is made smooth with the help of features such as ESP, power steering, a tilt and telescopic steering column, and a rack and pinion steering gear type. The car boasts of a high turning radius (wheel base) lending worth to its braking and handling features. The front suspension is a McPherson strut setup while the rear suspension is a multi link type.

Safety features

Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 has a braking system that is equipped with ABS with EBD. There are dual airbags with passenger detection system in the front as well as front, side and curtain airbags. Safety features such as the rollover sensor and parking sensor, silica tyres and impact sensing door unlock, height adjustable front seat belts and engine immobiliser make the passengers' ride safe and secure. For keeping the temperature inside the car always pleasant, there is a dual zone fully automatic temperature control and 2 & 3 row AC vents with independent third row controls. The outside mirrors can be electronically adjusted, retracted or heated; the turn indicators have been integrated. Some unique features of Hyundai Santa Fe 4X2 include a cool box in central console armrest, a cluster ionizer and an MT shift indicator. Apart from all of this, the driver window has been provided with pinch guard and an auto down and up function. The front armrest comes with a storage area. The second row seat is able to be split folded in the ratio of 60:40 while the third row seat can be split folded 50/50 with the option of being turned into a flat bed platform. The rear centre armrest comes with cup holders, the headrests can be moved up-down and can be tilted, and both the front and rear windows are powered. Additionally still, there are sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors and extensions, dual sunglass holders, intermittent wiper and washer, tachometer, and luggage net and hooks. Hyundai has left no stone unturned in making their Santa Fe 4X2 a comfortable and convenient drive for everyone.
