Sail 1.3 Base Review
The updated version of Chevrolet Sail sedan is launched in the Indian car market with diesel and petrol engine options. Chevrolet Sail 1.3 Base is its entry level variant. It receives several changes to its exteriors as well as interiors, which gives it a refreshing look. The new exterior aspects include hawk wing styled headlight cluster and a chrome strip on the boot lid . On the other hand, its interiors are redesigned with classy beige and black color scheme, icy blue illumination for instrument cluster and new fabric upholstery for seats. Other standard features in the cabin include a glove box, map pockets, rear seat armrest and a few utility based aspects. Apart form these, it is packed with a few comfort features like remote fuel filler, luggage compartment lamp, power adjustable outside mirrors, power socket for charging mobile phones and a few others that enhances the comfort levels. There are no changes made to its technical specifications and hence, it retains the same 1.3-litre diesel engine that is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gear box. It can churn out a peak power of 74bhp along with a maximum torque output of 190Nm. It has a proficient suspension system that helps to keep the vehicle stable on any road conditions. On the safety front, it has a dual horn, child safety locks as well as key in reminder that ensures protection of its occupants. This sedan is available in Velvet Red, Switchblade Silver, Summit White, Caviar Black, Linen Beige as well as Sandrift Grey body paint options for the customers to choose from. It is offered with a standard warranty of 3-years or 1,00,000 kilometers whichever is earlier. This period can be further extended to one or two years at an additional cost.
Exteriors:
This sedan is designed with an overall length of 4249mm, width of 1690mm and has a total height of 1503mm. It has a large wheelbase that measures 2465mm, while the ground clearance comes to 168mm. It is blessed with a robust structure that is fitted with several remarkable aspects. Starting with the front facade, it has a chrome dual port radiator grille with golden bowtie that gives it an attractive look. It is flanked by a beautifully crafted hawk wing styled headlight cluster that is integrated with high intensity headlamps. The sleek bonnet has some expressive lines on it and there are a couple of intermittent wipers fitted to its large windscreen. Then, there is a body colored bumper that is fitted with an airdam, which cools the engine in no time. The side profile looks stylish with outside rear view mirrors and door handles. The wheel arches are equipped with a set of 14 inch steel wheels that are covered with radial tubeless tyres of size 175/70 R14. The rear end includes a radiant tail light cluster, bumper and a boot lid, which has an integrated spoiler and company's emblem engraved on it.
Interiors:
This Chevrolet Sail 1.3 Base trim has a roomy cabin that can accommodate five people with ease. The interiors are done beautifully with dual tone black and beige color scheme . Its well cushioned seats offer maximum comfort and these are covered with high quality fabric upholstery. The elegantly designed dashboard is fitted with a center console, air vents and a three spoke sporty steering wheel that has the company's logo embedded on it. The chrome garnished parking brake button and center stack bezel with metallic paint further gives an appealing look to its interiors. Besides these, it has a few utility based aspects like front door map pockets, high volume glove box, cup holders and front seat back pockets. This trim is bestowed with 370 litres boot space wherein, a lot of luggage can be stored.
Engine and Performance:
This variant is powered by a 1.3-litre SMARTECH diesel engine that has the displacement capacity of 1248cc . It has four cylinders, 16 valves and is based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration. This turbocharged mill is integrated with a common rail fuel injection system that helps it in producing a maximum mileage of 22.1 Kmpl on expressways. It is coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box that transmits torque output to its front wheels. This motor is capable of producing a maximum power of 74bhp at 4000rpm and yields a peak torque output of 190Nm at 1750rpm. This vehicle can attain a top speed of nearly 160 Kmph and takes around 16 seconds to cross the 100 Kmph speed mark.
Braking and Handling:
This trim has a reliable braking system wherein, disc brakes are fitted to its front wheels and drum brakes are used for the rear ones . The front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut and a torsion beam axle is fitted on the rear one. It has a power assisted steering system helps in convenient handling.
Comfort Features:
This variant is blessed with a few comfort aspects that offers a pleasurable driving experience to its occupants. It has a tilt adjustable steering wheel, front power windows, a manually operated air conditioning system with heater. Then it also has power adjustable ORVM's, front height adjustable headrests, day and night internal rear view mirror, remote fuel lid and boot opener, sun visor, luggage compartment lamp, remote tail gate release, co-passenger vanity mirror on sun visor, interior courtesy lamp and a 12V power outlet using which passengers can charge their phones.
Safety Features:
This Chevrolet Sail 1.3 Base variant is loaded with many safety aspects like 3-point ELR front seat belts, driver’s seat belt reminder, door ajar warning and key-in reminder as well. Apart from these, it also includes a high mounted stop lamp, front and side impact beams, dual horn, rear seat child protection door locks and an engine immobilizer that prevents unauthorized entry. All these aspects enhances the protection of its passengers.
