Winger Platinum BSIII Review

Tata Winger is a multi utility vehicle from the stable of one of India's largest car makers, Tata Motor Group. The company is selling it in quite a few variants, out of which, Tata Winger Deluxe Flat Roof (AC) is the mid range trim in its model line up. It is available in two exterior paint options, which are Pearl White and Arctic Silver for the buyers to choose from. On the other hand, this MUV is also offered with eighteen months or 150000 Kilometer warranty, whichever is earlier. It is equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which can displace 1948cc and has the ability to deliver good performance. This engine is mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which transmits the engine power to its front wheels. This power plant can churn out a maximum power of 90bhp in combination with a peak torque output of 190Nm. In terms of internal cabin, it is quite roomy and has the capacity to accommodate ten passengers. The list of features available in this variant includes a responsive power steering, air conditioning system with a heater, remote fuel lid opener and several other aspects that gives the occupants a comfortable driving experience.

Exteriors:

This variant is fitted with a lot of striking features that makes the look of this MUV quite captivating. To start with the rear end, it comes with a radiant tail light cluster and a body colored bumper along with a pair of reflectors. The side profile is neatly carved and is designed with body colored door handles and ORVMs. These external rear view mirrors are electrically adjustable and are fitted with a turn indicator as well. The flared up wheel arches are equipped with a set of 14 inch steel wheels, which are further covered with 185 R14 LT sized tubeless radial tyres. On the other hand, the front facade comes with a bold radiator grille, which has body colored slats and embedded with a prominent company badge in the center. It is surrounded by a well designed headlight cluster that is incorporated with halogen lamps and turn indicator. Just below this, there is a body colored bumper, which has an air dam for cooling the powerful diesel mill. The large windscreen is made of tinted glass and is integrated with a set of intermittent wipers as well. Its overall length is quite standard and can easily accommodate five passengers. It comes with a total length of 4920mm, a height of 2050mm along with a decent width of 1905mm, which includes external rear view mirrors. It is designed with a large wheelbase of 3200mm , which ensures a spacious cabin inside.

Interiors:

The interiors of this mid range variant are designed with a leather wrapped steering wheel, handbrake lever and body colored inside door handles. It is bestowed with quite a few utility based aspects that adds to the convenience of the occupants. The list includes cup and bottle holders, glove box, coin case, ashtray and several other aspects. The spacious internal cabin of this Tata Winger Deluxe Flat Roof (AC) trim has a seating capacity of thirteen passengers. The seats are covered with premium fabric upholstery and integrated with adjustable headrests and soft wide adjustable armrests that offers decent comfort for the passengers. The smooth dashboard is equipped with an illuminated instrument cluster, which houses a speedometer and tachometer along with a white LCD back-lit single line on the digital display showing a digital clock.

Engine and Performance:

Under the bonnet, this MUV is packed with a 2.0-litre diesel power plant, which is integrated with 2-cylinders and 8-valves. It has the ability to displace 1948cc , while producing 90bhp at 4300rpm along with a peak torque output of 190Nm between 2000 to 3000rpm. It is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which helps in achieving a top speed in the range of 120 to 125 Kmph. At the same time, it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in close to 19 to 20 seconds. This diesel mill has CRDI fuel supply system that helps in generating 7.35 Kmpl in the city limits, while its mileage goes up to 10.71 Kmpl on the bigger roads.

Braking and Handling:

The rack and pinion based power steering system supports a minimum turning radius of 5.65 meters and it makes handling convenient. The company has given this utility vehicle an efficient braking and suspension mechanism. It is blessed with a vacuum assisted hydraulic service brakes, which also has boosters with a TMC (tandem master cylinder) . The front wheels are fitted with a set of disc brakes along with twin pot calipers. Whereas the rear wheels are assembled with drum brakes that has LSPV (load sensing proportioning value), which reduces the possibility of skidding in case of sudden braking. On the other hand, the front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut type of system that is assisted by coil springs. While, the rear axle is equipped with double parabolic leaf spring, which is further accompanied with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. This suspension mechanism is further assisted by anti roll bar.

Comfort Features:

This mid range variant is equipped with quite a few features for convenience of the occupants. Some of these aspects include, adjustable headrests and armrest, roof lamps in the front and mid row, remote fuel lid opener, power windows, electrically adjustable external wing mirrors, power steering with tilt adjustable function, well cushioned seats with fabric upholstery and many other such aspects. The efficient air conditioning system has a heater and it is also equipped with roof mounted AC vents , which helps in cooling the entire cabin quickly.

Safety Features:

This Tata Winger Deluxe Flat Roof (AC) trim is incorporated with a number of protective aspects, which include sliding doors with child safety lock , rub rail on both sides, rugged engine sub-frame and load sensing proportion valve. Apart from these, it also has door ajar warning lamp on the instrument panel, tinted window glasses, anti glare internal rear view mirror and side impact beams for protecting the occupants sitting inside.
