
Tata Safari is one of the most popular SUV in the Indian market produced by Tata Motors India. This was the first SUV to be designed, developed and manufactured Completely in India. The SUV was first released in 1998 and in these years the car has got an upgrade a number of times. The Safari at present is sold in the market with the name Tata New Safari DICOR. This new model of Safari is available in the market in 7 different variants all with diesel engine. Tata New Safari DICOR 2.2 VX 4x2 is the higher model of the car and is powered by a 2.2 liter 16V DOHC VTT DICOR engine which provides a power of 138.1bhp and a torque of 320Nm which delivers a mileage of 12kmpl. The new features that are available with the new Tata Safari includes Split grille and badges on them, body colored bumpers and new hard covers for the spare tyres are are major changes. The kerb weight of new Tata Safari has also been reduced to 50kg. Tata Safari is available with tubeless tyres. Adjustable light intensity on instrumental panel, wood finish center console, dark graphite and perforated tan leather seats are extended features in the new Tata Safari. Steering of the car is leather wrapped and the gear knob is leather clad too. Headlamps keep light on for nearly 30 seconds even after the engine is turned off. This SUV has a length of 4650mm, width of 1918mm and a height of 1925mm. The car has a ground clearance of 205mm with a wheelbase of 2650mm. The front tread which his the distance between the front left and front right wheel is 1500mm and the rear tread is the distance between the rear left and rear right wheel is 1470mm. The gross weight of the car comes out to be 2650kg.

Engine and Performance
The under its hood carries a VTT DICOR engine which provides a displacement of 2179cc, which is the amount of fuel that the engine will consume in one complete cycle. This 4 valve cylinder has 4 valves per cylinder in DOHC configuration and has MPFI fuel injection system. The engine 138.1bhp at the rate of 4000rpm and a torque 320Nm for a range of 1700-2700rpm. The engine comes mated with a 5 speed manual transmission. The engine provides an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 15.8 seconds and can touch a top speed of 160kmph. The mileage delivered by the car is 10.45kmpl in the city driving conditions and 13.93kmpl on the highways. The engine is complied with BSIV emission norm which is the Bharat Stage IV instituted by the Government of India to keep a check over the pollution caused by the internal combustion engine.
Braking and Handling
The brake mechanism of the car includes the ventilated disc brakes in the front and drum brakes at the rear. The suspension in the car is Independent Double Wishbone With Torsion Bar in the front while at the rear we have 5 Link Suspension With Coil Springs. The suspension system reduces the amount of vibrations, noise and bumps on the road to provide a comfortable ride. For handling there is a power steering wheel with collapsible steering column which provides it a turning radius of 6 meters.
Safety Features
The safety features in the car includes the ABS with Brake assist which provides effective braking and avoids skidding in case of instant braking. The standard features in the car are Central Locking, Child Safety Locks, rear seat belts with seat belt warning, front and side impact beams optional centrally mounted fuel tank. There are also features like driver and passenger airbag which provides cushioning effect in case of collision and avoid any injury. It has halogen headlamps which generate three times more light using only 50% of the energy. There are also adjustable seats with keyless entry and engine immobilizer.
Comfort Features
The comfort features in the car are power steering and power windows, remote trunk and fuel lid opener to open then while sitting in the car. For the rear passengers there is a reading lamp, seat headrest, center armrest and AC vents for effective cooling. The car also has option of seat lumbar support which allows you to increase the pressure at the back of your seat to make it more comfortable. There is also a parking sensor which alerts the driver to unseen obstacles during parking manoeuvres.
