Bolt Revotron XMS Review
After achieving an enormous success with its compact sedan model, Zest, Tata Motors has now rolled out a new hatchback, Bolt in the market. It is introduced as part of the Horizonext campaign and is made available in four petrol and diesel variants. Among these, Tata Bolt Revotron XMS is the mid range petrol trim, which is equipped with a highly acclaimed 1.2-litre engine. At present, this motor is mated to a five speed manual gearbox that helps it to deliver a maximum mileage of 17.6 Kmpl. Although it is the mid range trim, it has a lengthy list of features including an advanced ConnectNext infotainment system. It also has sophisticated protective aspects including ABS and EBD along with a cornering stability control that helps to glide through corners with greater agility and stability. This all new hatchback has a breathtaking external appearance owing to the smoked headlight and flamed taillight cluster that emphasizes its sporty appeal. The manufacturer has also given utmost importance to the functional features by incorporating a latest generation instrument cluster that displays fuel levels, outside temperature, distance to empty along with in-gear and shift recommendation. The automaker claims that this hatchback has the best-in-class rear cabin leg room, which makes it a tough contender in its segment. At present, it is competing with the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Swift, Fiat Punto Evo and Hyundai Elite i20 in the lucrative hatchback segment.
Exteriors:
Like mentioned above, this latest generation hatchback has a modernistic external appearance complimented by signature new cosmetics. Its rear facet has a flame-shaped taillight cluster that renders it an astounding look. The tailgate has an expressive design and is fitted with a chrome plated strip along with a few badges. Its windscreen is quite wide and is integrated with a wiper along with third brake lights as well. Furthermore, there is an additional brake lamp positioned in the center of the bumper that provides additional safety. Another attractive aspect is its C pillars, as they are neatly garnished in black color. Its side profile has a conventional design featuring a few lines on its door panels. However, this mid range trim gets steel rims as standard feature, but are fitted with full wheel covers. Like its rear pillars, its B pillars too have been coated in black, which enhances its modern look. Furthermore, its body colored wing mirrors are integrated with LED turn blinkers, which offers additional protection. The most attractive aspect is its front facade, as it is fitted with a signature radiator grille featuring a humanitarian chrome grille. Surrounding this is the stylish smoked headlight cluster that adds to its aggressive stance.
Interiors:
The internal cabin of Tata Bolt Revotron XMS trim gets a snazzy java black color scheme, which is complimented by chrome accents given on air vents and parking brake lever. It also has cabin lights with theater dimming effect, which further enhance the elegance of ambiance. Its dashboard has a modernistic structure and is embodied with few convenience features like a glove box, AC unit and a few control switches. It also houses an attractive instrument cluster featuring a multi-information display and a pair of analogue meters. This hatchback gets a signature new three spoke steering wheel, which has a lot of metallic accents. All the seats inside are ergonomically designed with head restraints, wherein its front seats also have side bolsters for better support. There is a lot of space available inside, especially in the rear cabin that makes journey quite comfortable for the occupants. Its rear seats have split folding facility, which is helpful to increase the luggage storage capacity.
Engine and Performance:
The manufacturer has equipped this mid range trim with a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that has a displacement capacity of 1193cc. This DOHC based power plant comprises of 4 cylinders and it complies with Bharat Stage IV emission norms. It is also integrated with a turbocharger and multi-point fuel injection technology for better performance and fuel efficiency. It can churn out a peak power of 88.8bhp at 5000rpm and yields 140Nm in the range of just 1500 to 4000rpm. The car maker has paired this motor to a five speed manual transmission gearbox that releases the torque output to its front wheels. It is claimed that the vehicle can deliver a maximum mileage of 17.6 Kmpl, which is quite good.
Braking and Handling:
Like any other hatchback, this vehicle too gets a proficient braking mechanism with disc brakes for front rims and drums at rear wheels. This mechanism is assisted by the advanced anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution. Furthermore, its cornering brake control system comes into effect while applying brakes at tight corner and keeps the vehicle stable. Its front axle is fitted with a dual path McPherson strut including anti roll bars, while the rear axle gets twist beam system featuring shock absorbers. Furthermore, both the axles are loaded with coil springs, which enhances its ability to deal with jerks.
Comfort Features:
This Tata Bolt Revotron XMS is the mid range variant that has all the standard comfort features, which pampers the occupants. The list includes electric power steering system with tilt adjustment, foldable key, an air conditioning system with heater, remote fuel lid and tailgate opening function, front passenger's sun visor with illumination, adjustable head restraints and electrically operated windows. It also has aspects like driver seat height adjuster, central locking with remote, split folding rear bench seat, power operated ORVMs and a day/night inside rear view mirror. This trim also gets a ConnectNext infotainment system featuring a radio unit along with a USB port and AUX-In socket. The steering wheel is mounted with audio and call control switches, which further adds to the convenience.
Safety Features:
The automaker has bestowed this mid range variant with advanced protective aspects like an engine immobilizer, rear door child lock, speed dependent automatic door lock, front fog lamps, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control system and dual front airbags. Furthermore, it has side impact protection beams, three point seat belts, powerful headlamps and dual horns, which enhances the safety.
