Tata Aria Pure 4x2

Tata Aria is an attempt by Tata Motors to change the perception of the Indian buyers. The fit and finish of the Aria is very fine and classy and the car comes with tonnes of features that make it a little pricy as well. With the 2.2-litre 16V DICOR diesel engine , Tata Aria Pure 4x2 delivers a mileage of 10.3kmpl in the city and around 13.7kmpl on the highways. The 7 seater Aria Pure is a mated to a manual transmission and stands against the very competitive Toyota Innova and the more recent entrant, MarutiErtiga. The maximum power output of the Aria is 138.1bhp at 4000rpm and the torque that Aria delivers is close to 320Nm at 1700 – 2700rpm. Aria Pure comes loaded with features like ABS braking system, power steering, power windows, leather seats, central locking, rear AC vent and seat lumbar support etc. Further, it also has the cruise control which allows the Tata Aria to be a pleasure. Tata Aria is a big car with a length of 4780mm, width of 1895mm, height of 1780mm and a wheelbase of 2850mm. In fact, the 7 seater market leader, Toyota Innova is a little smaller in size in comparison to the Aria. Innova stands at a length of 4580mm, width of 1770mm, and height of 1755mm and wheelbase of 2750 mm. in terms of ground clearance as well, Tata Aria has a clearance of 200mm whereas Innova has a clearance of 176mm.

Exteriors

On the outside, Tata Aria 4x2 has an aggressive stance. Up front one can see the elongated headlamps with integrated turn indicators with the projector headlamps which are known as the Dual Barrel headlamps. The front has chrome strips with the Tata logo in the centre. Coming to the side profile, the wheel arches add to the muscularity of the sophisticated looking vehicle. The ORVMs are electrically adjustable but are not foldable . These also have integrated turn lights. Further, one can see a lot of chrome on the frame of the door, which adds to the sophistication. At the rear end, Tata Aria Pure 4x2 has flat Tata tail lamps which somewhat now seem to be a Tata family branding. The rear gets a wash wiper along with a defogger and a central stop lamp. Adding to the looks of the Aria Pure, one can see a strip of chrome running above the number plate which hasTata engraved on it. Overall, the design of the car along with the finish is very good and very polished.

Interiors

Tata Aria 4x2, like all other Aria models, get a very neat clean and a very spacious cabin. There is a lot of faux wood finish and inserts in the cabin, adding to the panache of the interiors. The instrument cluster in the Aria Pure is somewhat simple. The steering wheel, suiting the size of the large vehicle is a little big. This variant of the Aria comes with the 2 Din music system with CD, MP3 along with USB and AUX – in port on the centre console along with Speed dependent volume control . The seats are in fabric and very comfortable. Inside as well, the plastic quality, fit and finish are of a very high quality and give Aria a very rich look. The space in the cabin is immense and moreover the second row seats and be pushed forward and backward to suit the requirement. The shoulder room and headroom is also very good in the Aria.

Engine and performance (power, mileage, acceleration and pick up)

Tata Aria Pure 4x2 has the 2.2-litre 16V DICOR engine which has a capacity of 2197cc and delivers a power of 138.1bhp at 4000 revolutions per minute. The torque delivered by Tata Aria Pure is 320Nm between 1700 – 2700rpm. The engine of Aria Pure comes mated with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The mileage that the car delivers is close to 10.3kmpl in the city and 13.7kmpl on the highways. It complies with the BS IV emission norms and has a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres. The top speed that the vehicle can reach is almost 162kmph. It can sprint from 0-100kmph in about 14 seconds .

Braking and handling

With the Independent double wishbone with coil spring in the front and 5 link suspension with coil spring at the rear, Tata Aria Pure 4x2 gives a comfortable drive as the suspension takes good car of the potholes and bumps present on the Indian roads. Easy and comfortable cornering and turning in the Aria enhances the comfort levels of the vehicle although, the steering is a little heavy, and at the same time it is very responsive. The power delivery of the 2.2-litre engine powering the car is very quick and does not have the usual whine that can be heard in most of the Tata SUVs when accelerating. The gears behave well and with the 235/70 R16 tyres which help give a good grip with the road , the vehicle overall has a much tamed drive.

Safety features

Aria Pure 4x2 comes with Anti – lock braking system which helps the drive be safe. One of the drawbacks in the vehicle is the missing airbags for the safety of the passengers. For the safety of the car, the vehicle has the engine immobilizer. The usual, central locking, power door locks, child safety locks, door ajar warning, seat belt warning, side and front impact beams, keyless entry and engine check warning etc. are present in the car.

Comfort features

Tata Aria Pure comes with black and beige interiors which have faux wood inserts. On the inside, adding to the upper class finish there are chrome door handles. There is also a driver information system, rear air conditioning, rear wiper, washer and defogger, keyless entry, follow me home headlamps, ABS with EBD and 2Din music system with CD/MP3 player along with 6 speakers, USB and Aux – in port on the centre console .
