XUV500 AT W10 FWD Review
The Mahindra XUV500 AT W10 AWD is a new variant in this series. The car has been designed on the same template as the previous edition, but a notable change is the automatic transmission it now gets. Its power plant is the same 2.2-litre oil-burner, but it is now being mated with a 6-speed automatic gearbox sourced from 'Aisin'. Aside from this, the interior remains relatively unchanged. The premium layout of the cabin includes a beige and black interior atmosphere, which leaves the area refreshed. The electric sunroof is a highlight of the cabin's delights, for it relieves the feeling of being confined in a vehicle. Aside from this, the spacious area has been integrated with many functional aspects, from adjustable seats with headrests to a touchscreen entertainment system. A reverse parking camera makes for safety in addition to comfort, and this comes along with an advanced Intellipark system. Power windows make for a more relaxed experience, along with a remote tailgate opening feature, a remote central locking feature, reading lamps, three mobile charging points, illuminated key rings and a glovebox with a laptop holder. For improved security, there is a rear wash and wipe system, a rear demister, an entry assist lamp, a door ajar lamp. The SUV's magnificent sculpture makes for a splendid feel. The menace exuded by its large build is accentuated by the presence of slender lines by the side, a wider hood and an overall shape that promotes aerodynamics. No change is registered for the new variant.
Exteriors:
The car's husky and well toned posture makes it a true design feat. It structure exerts a bold and aggressive demeanor, giving it an air of superiority over vehicles on the road. The design tone has also absorbed some plush elements, and this gives it a more balanced and modernized picture. At the front, there is a new front grille that gets chrome inserts for a more vibrant look. Flanking this, the headlamp clusters are slim in design, and they come along with projector lights and light guides for enhanced safety. Fog lamps add to the visibility function, and they are underlined with a chrome bezel applique for a more expensive look. The side of the vehicle has been given its glamor with the finely designed alloy wheels, which is highlighted by the large fenders. A window chrome lining levels up the rich look by the side. The roof rails add to the utility of the vehicle, and at the same time, give it a more eminent look from the outside. For this variant, the body has been treated with cladding strips for a more distinguished look. A chrome applique has been graced upon the tailgate, while the twin exhausts also boost the visual edge at the rear.
Interiors:
The cabin is vast and spacious, and it has been applied with features of comfort and style for a more energized experience. The ergonomically built seats have been integrated with headrests and armrests, relieving discomfort for the occupants. Premium leather upholstery has been stitched upon the seats for a more luxurious feel. Illuminated scruff plates are also present, and sporty aluminum pedals. The front panel has been modeled in an attractive way, and the twin pod instrument cluster adds to the cabin image. At the center of the panel, the 7 inch screen gives the place a more sophisticated and modern look.
Engine and Performance:
Packed within the machine is an mHawk 140 diesel engine, which displaces 2179cc. The train is equipped with a 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger that boosts performance. This power plant is now paired with a new 6 speed F6F45 automatic gearbox transmission developed by Aisin, which enables flawless shifting and improved performance. Coming to the specifications area, the plant delivers a power of 140bhp at 3750rpm, together with a torque of 330Nm at 1600rpm to 2800rpm.
Braking and Handling:
All four wheels of the car have been designed with disc and caliper type brakes, which bring a strong control when driving. Coming to the chassis area, an independent suspension system is present, with a McPherson strut at the front axle and a Multilink type axle for the rear. Coil springs have been mounted on both arms, giving a smoother and more relieved drive for the occupants. Tubeless radials have been adorned on all the wheels, further honing the control quality of the drive.
Comfort Features:
The driver's seat comes in a 6 way power adjustable setting for the benefit of the man behind the wheel. A fully automatic temperature control system renders a more positive atmosphere for the cabin. Tilt and telescopic steering system blends safety with comfort. The outside mirrors are power adjustable and power foldable, ensuring the least disruption for the occupants of the car. Also present is a passive keyless entry system, start/stop push button, and an electronic steering lock. For the entertainment of the passengers, there is an advanced Infotainment system that comes along with a 7 inch color touchscreen, GPS function, iPod connectivity and USB compatibility. Bluetooth enables occupants to stream music through their phones, and also allows in-cabin calling. A single row LCD display further escalates the lavish entertainment benefits of the cabin. A unique feature is the voice command which comes along with voice recognition and SMS readout facilities for the most surpassing experience. Also present is a Mahindra BLUE SENSE app, a DIS inbuilt Infotainment system and an electric sunroof that comes with an anti pitch facility.
Safety Features:
Dual airbags keep the front occupants well protected in case of mishaps, and this is further bolstered by side and curtain airbags. The ride stability is preserved with the presence of an anti lock braking system, which prevents skidding. Also present are electronic brake-force distribution and an electronic stability program that comes along with rollover mitigation. Also present are hill hold and hill descent control, which enable safety on sloping grounds. Side impact beams have been incorporated into the vehicle, along with crumple zones for crash protection.
Pros:
1. Spacious interiors.
2. Decent performance quality.
Cons:
1. The comfort factor could be improved.
2. Safety could be upgraded.
