Scorpio 2014-2022 S10 7 Seater Review
The company has launched the latest version of Mahindra Scorpio and has named it as “New Generation Scorpio”. This rugged SUV features new hydroformed chassis along with the same ladder frame. In terms of technicalities, its engine is paired with a new five speed manual transmission gear box, which is much smoother than before. It is available in five variants with two diesel engine options. Among these, Mahindra Scorpio S10 7 Seater is the top end trim in its model series. It is powered by the same 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel power plant that has a displacement capacity of 2179cc. The manufacturer has modified its exteriors as well as interiors for attracting the buyers. It is designed with an aggressive frontage, which includes new headlight cluster with projector headlamps, revamped body colored bumper and a bold radiator grille with a few body colored slats. It also has a new set of alloy wheels that gives the side profile a classy look. At the same time, its interiors are fitted with an updated dashboard, which is equipped with features like a sporty steering wheel and re-designed AC vents. The company has also made some other changes, which gives it an upmarket appearance. The overall dimensions are quite standard and it is designed with a large wheelbase of 2680mm and a minimum ground clearance of 180mm. It has an overall length of 4456mm, a decent height of 1995mm and a total width of 1820mm.
Exteriors:
This sports utility vehicle has an aggressive body structure with a lot of striking features. Currently, it is available in five exterior paint options for the buyers to select from. The list includes Mist Silver, Fiery Black and Diamond White along with a couple of new body color including Regal Blue and Molten Red. Its updated frontage is designed with provocative bonnet scoop for better air intake and makes the engine cool . The bold radiator grille is fitted with a few body colored slats. It is embossed with a chrome plated logo in the center. This grille is surrounded by a neatly crafted headlight cluster that is incorporated with projector headlamps and side turn indicator. The revised bumper houses a wide air dam and flanked by a couple of bright fog lamps. The side cladding not only gives bold look to the SUV, but also absorbs the impact from the side in case of accidents and keeps the passengers safe. The door handles and external rear view mirrors are painted in body color. Its ORVMs are electrically adjustable and integrated with side turn blinker. The pronounced wheel arches are fitted with a modish set of 17-inch alloy wheels, which are covered with 235/65 R17 sized tubeless radial tyres. Its rear end remains unchanged and equipped with a stylish tail light cluster. The body colored bumper is fitted with a pair of bright reflectors. Its windscreen has a defogger and wash and wipe function as well.
Interiors:
The interiors of this Mahindra Scorpio S10 7 Seater trim is incorporated with a number of sophisticated features. The middle row sliding seats offers enough legroom and is integrated with a center armrest and adjustable head restraints. The individual arm rests on first row adds to the convenience of the driver. All these seats are covered with fabric upholstery in a combination of Black and Beige. The updated dashboard is equipped with a new sporty steering wheel, an advanced instrument panel, a large glove box and re-designed AC vents. The instrument panel features a digital tachometer, an electronic trip meter, low fuel warning light, average consumption, digital clock and driver seat belt warning notification. The multi-functional steering wheel is mounted with audio and call control buttons.
Engine and Performance:
This particular variant is fitted with a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, mHawk diesel engine, which comes with micro hybrid technology. It can displace 2179cc that is integrated with 4-cylinders and 16-valves using double overhead camshaft based valve configuration. This motor can churn out a maximum power output of 120bhp at 4000rpm and 280Nm of peak torque between 1800 to 2800rpm. It is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system that has the ability to deliver a maximum mileage of 15.4 Kmpl on the highways. At the same time, it can produce 12.5 Kmpl in the city traffic conditions. It is mated with a new smoother five speed manual transmission gear box, which transmits the engine power to its front wheels. It powers the motor to zoom towards a top speed of 156 Kmph, while it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in about 15.8 seconds from a standstill.
Braking and Handling:
This variant has a rack and pinion based steering wheel, which is tilt adjustable and makes handling effortless. Its front wheels are equipped with a set of caliper type ventilated disc brakes, while the rear wheels get drum brakes. This braking mechanism is augmented by anti lock braking system . On the other hand, the front axle is assembled with a double wishbone type of mechanism with independent front coil spring, whereas the rear axle is fitted with a multi-link coil spring suspension with anti roll bar. This suspension mechanism is further assisted hydraulic double acting telescopic shock absorbers.
Comfort Features:
This Mahindra Scorpio S10 7 Seater variant is blessed with a new infotainment system with a 6-inch touchscreen display. It supports radio, CD player, USB interface, Aux-in port and Bluetooth connectivity. It also supports GPS navigation system. It has a fully automatic air conditioning unit has rear AC vents, which cools the cabin quickly. This variant has quite a few utility based aspects including cup and bottle holders, front seat back pockets, a large glove box, sun visors with vanity mirror and a spacious boot compartment with light for easy access. Apart from these, it also has all four power windows with driver side auto down function, remote trunk opener, rear reading lamps, reverse parking assist and cruise control.
Safety Features:
This top end trim is incorporated with a number of crucial protective aspects, which includes airbags for driver and front co-passenger, collapsible steering column, panic brake indication, central locking system, fog lamps and rear doors with child lock. It also has side impact beams and crash protection crumple zones, keyless entry seat belts for all occupants and fire resistant upholstery.
