XK R Convertible Special Edition Review
Jaguar owned by Tata Motors in India rolled out its new model Jaguar XK R in the market. With the launch of this model Jaguar India has again proved that its cars are one of the best stylish and luxurious ones. Jaguar XK R is available in 5 different variants Jaguar XK R S Coupe 5.0L supercharged, Jaguar XK R 5.0L V8 petrol Convertible, Jaguar XK R 5.0L V8 Petrol Coupe, Jaguar XK R Convertible Special Edition and Jaguar XK R Coupe Special Edition. The XK R Convertible special Edition under its hood carries a dynamic and robust 5.0 liter AJ V8 GEN III supercharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 503bhp for a range between 6000-6500rpm and a maximum torque of 625Nm for a range between 2500-5500rpm. The engine is coupled with a six speed automatic transmission that has Jaguar sequential Shift. The adaptive dynamics, active differential, high performance braking system and dynamic stability control makes the new Jaguar XK top notch on the road. The standard features that come equipped with this car are Air Conditioner, CD player, Anti Lock Braking system, power steering and power windows, leather seats and central locking. In the inside it is blessed with Artisan interiors that use scraffito grain leather for the seats upholstery, along with Poltrona Frau Leather head linings, instrument binnacle and rear and door quarter casings. With the interior, the safety and comfort features in the car are given equal importance. On the whole Jaguar XK R Convertible Special Edition is a very sporty car with bold and dynamic looks.
Exterior
Jaguar cars are always known for their design and style, the same applies to the XK R model which is a result of best design, engineering and technology. The exterior looks of the car are very appealing and eye catchy which creates some uneasiness inside when it passes by. The body of the car is of aluminum which not only reduces the overall weight but also results in overall aerodynamics which in turn improves car performance, particularly in convertible model. In the front the car has stretched bonnet which is fitted with automatic slim line Bi-function HID Xenon headlights have LED daylight running lights and washers which operate with the ‘screen wash-wipe’ function and can be leveled automatically. It has two parts mesh grille in black finish with the upper grille having chrome outline. Not only is the front even the side profile of the car is equally interesting. . One can find auto dimming, electrically folding, automatically heated ORVMs with integrated LED lights and approach lamps. The LEDs are mesmerizing during night. The 20 inch alloy wheels adorn Jaguar XKR and carry the weight of this supercar. To add beauty to the rear the car has LED tail lights and a spoiler to improve the aerodynamics. The most attractive feature of the car would be soft triple lined fabric roof that can be automatically elevated or lowered; this whole process is done in less than 18 seconds. When lowered down, the roof is completely hidden within the bodywork. Jaguar XK has a length of 4794 mm and width including the ORVMs of 2028mm. However, the overall width with mirrors folded is 1892 mm. The height of XKR Convertible is 1329 mm with a wheelbase is 2752 mm.
Interior
The interior of the car compete with its exteriors for elegance, craftsmanship, sophistication and style. It has very generous interior features like metal switch gear, soft grain leather covering, wood veneers and smooth chrome. The use of the finest materials guarantees that the cabins of all Jaguar XK models are finished to the most luxurious standards with detailed finishing and a comprehensive harmony of colors. Standard soft-grain leather luxury seats are heated and cooled and are built with 16-way power adjustment and memory function . The car also has an Air Conditioner with heater that helps in maintaining the interior temperature of the car; the adjustable steering column helps us in adjusting the steering wheel according to our comfort. The instrumentation panel on the dash board has tachometer, electronic multi trip meter, outside temperature display and digital odometer .
Engine and Performance
Jaguar XK R Convertible special edition is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 Petrol Supercharged convertible engine that has 8 cylinders with 4 valves per cylinders , it has bore x stroke of 92.5x93 and a compression ratio of 9.5:1. The engine generates a power of 503bhp for a range between 6000-6500rpm and a maximum torque of 625Nm for a range between 2500-5500rpm. To further enhance the efficiency the engine is mated with a 6 speed automatic transmission system. With this power we can readily accelerate the car from 0- 100knph in just 5.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 250kmph . The mileage delivers by the car is 5.8kmpl in the city driving conditions and 12kmpl on the highways. The petrol tank has a capacity of 70 liters.
Braking and Handling
The brake mechanism of the car is also very effective as it has electric parking brake both in the front and the rear. The car features Adaptive Dynamics that examine speed, body movements and steering about 500 times per second and then according adjust the suspension with the electronic damper that help in achieving the right balance between precise handling and comfort. It also has ABS that avoids any skidding of car in case of instantaneous braking. Cruise control and Automatic Speed Limiter system are also installed as standard features in Jaguar XK to offer augmented expediency when driving.
