Jazz 2014-2020 1.5 E i DTEC Review
Honda's has relaunched the Jazz series in India in petrol as well as in diesel versions. This Honda Jazz 1.5 E i-DTEC is fitted with a diesel engine that assures best fuel efficiency in its class. Being the entry level trim, it is equipped with all the basic necessities that are expected of by a user. Safety being the priority for any car, the very architecture of this hatchback is built with extreme engineering, which will avoid occupants from getting fatally injured. Quite many facilities are imbibed for the sake of convenience to the driver and passengers too. The aspect that saves the driver's arms from getting numb is the adjustable steering wheel and adding to this, power steering helps in reducing the effort to the minimal level. A 2,530mm of long wheelbase has made it possible to have a cabin that is spacious. Moreover, the doors to the compartment that can be opened to 90-degrees makes the entry and exit to the cabin much feasible. A mileage of 27.3Kmpl and a trunk room size of 345 litres make this small car feasible for endeavouring distant expeditions. This model series is made available in seven bright shades that gel totally well with the trendy looking body that it sports. Externally it seems to lure the audience with its unique layout where the edgy bumpers, the fanciful lights and the modest size, all sum up to present a perky look to its outward surface. Handling of this peppy car is also a fun job owing to the six speed manual transmission along with a premium technology based transmission. Tagged at a reasonable price, it can be considered to be worth every penny that goes into its initial cost as well as its maintenance which is quite economic. With features that are inarguably needed for current market standards, this variant is amicable to all the section of users in this segment.
Exteriors:
Headlamps that are decorated on either sides of the bonnet look slender and sportive. The grille on the front is wing shaped and looks fancy. It also boasts of the company's signature badge over it. Below the number plate is an airdam for cooling the engine. The windscreen is very wide, which gives a broad vision for the driver and also favours the front view. A pair of wipers are fixed onto this windscreen. Steel wheels that are of size 14-inches are fixed to this trim and are accompanied by a set of sturdy tires. Outside rear view mirrors are attached on both sides of this small car and they are further mounted with turn indicators onto them. A, B and C pillars stand in black making the side profile appear in sync with the rest of the body, which displays black accents.
Interiors:
It is spacious enough to accommodate five occupants without any hassle. Seats are placed well in a manner that the occupants won't experience fretting due to friction amongst them. Fabric wrapped seats are in beige color and the entire theme can be said to be in beige including the pillars and roof lining. Rear seat is a single bench with headrests fixed to it. The dashboard is made of black plastic to give a classic appeal to the compartment. Steering wheel consists of three spokes, which make it look sportive. Instrument cluster contains three pods within it is embedded with reminders such as fuel consumption warning, average fuel consumption display and a tachometer. A day and night inside rear view mirror is present in the compartment. There is a standard multi-information combi-meter, which has a blue illumination emitted within and without. A one touch lane change indicator too is added to this cluster of information.
Engine and Performance:
A 1.5-Litre i-DTEC diesel engine is fixed in this variant, which is known for an appreciating performance. It can generate about 98.63bhp at 3600rpm and a torque output of 200Nm at 1750rpm. An impressive 27.3Kmpl of mileage is possessed by the diesel version, which is certified by ARAI. It has a displacement capacity of 1498cc and is based on DOHC valve configuration. It is fitted with four cylinders and sixteen valves and is based on common rail direct injection fuel supply system. It is equipped with a six speed manual transmission gear box.
Braking and Handling:
It is mated with an electronic power steering to make the handling of this hatchback much easier. The front suspension is of new geometry strut type and the rear axle is coupled with a high rigidity torsion-beam of H-shape. Its front wheels are fitted with disc brakes, while the rear ones are mated with the standard set of strong drum brakes. A pedestrian injury mitigation function is available, which is an automatic brake prior to the collision that add on to its braking system.
Comfort Features:
All the four doors are integrated with power windows and this facility is a convenient factor to all the occupants. Power steering is one such feature which is a strain alleviator to the driver and makes driving an easy job. Tilt-able steering wheel on the other hand makes long journeys too quite effortless by allowing the driver to change the steering position as per preference. Legroom at the rear end of the cabin is very generous and considered to be one of the advantages. A capacity of about 345 litres in the boots even without folding the seats is very large and is positive to undertake long journeys.
Safety Features:
The total build of the car is designed based on the advanced compatibility engineering. It will guard the occupants from mortal injuries by avoiding the outside impact to affect the cabin by distributing the collision force. There are notifications like key-off reminder and driver seatbelt. The pedestrian injury mitigation braking that is incorporated into this series is a protective feature, which applies brakes autonomously in anticipation of an object or a person on the way. An LED high mount stop lamp is affixed on the rear end which enables other vehicles to notice this car's presence.
