Volkswagen Reveals 2.0L 4-Cylinder 272 HP Diesel Featuring Electric Booster and 10-Speed DSG Box!

If you think that this German behemoth was satisfied extracting 240 HP from a 2.0-liter TDi diesel using a twin turbocharger in the new Passat- you might have to think again!  VW has unveiled even more powerful version of the 2.0-liter TDi, chucking out power close of 272 HP by using, what they call it - an ‘Electric Booster.’ The automaker has also shed some light on the new 10-speed DSG automatic transmission that will be used by future VWs and Audis.

Though things are still hazy about the ‘Electric Booster’ but it is likely to be same as of Audi’s technology that was unveiled recently which uses twin turbochargers along with an electric supercharger to extract more power and reduces turbo lag drastically.

World’s first 10-Speed DSG Automatic box?

Volkswagen has also shed details of the world’s first 10-speed DSG - Direct-Shift Gearbox dual clutch automatic gearbox. Volkswagen says that the new 10-speed DSG can handle max torque of 550 Nm and it’s called DQ550 that indeed denotes the peak torque the tranny can handles! The new box also comes with intelligent fuel saving - coasting function and brake energy regeneration. The engine will shut itself at higher speed as soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal. Moreover, the start-stop function has also been updated - Stop-start 2.0 - rather than shutting the engine after vehicle comes to halt, the new system shuts the engine off if speed go below 7km/h. VW also says - ‘The engine is always restarted extremely comfortably.’
