Toyota Vios, a C-segment sedan is spotted testing on Indian roads, near the manufacturer’s Bangalore plant. The all new offering from the Japanese manufacturer will fill the gap between Etios and Corolla Altis. Vios is manufactured in Toyota’s Thailand plant and exported to different parts of the world but it will only make its way to India by the end of this year or in early 2016. Vios will go head to head with City, Ciaz and Verna when launched.

This will be the 3rd generation of this sedan and a debut for Indian auto sector. The premium looking sedan will get interiors inspired from its elder sibling Corolla, a good sign as the latter’s interior design cues are one of the best in the segment. It will sit on a wheelbase exactly identical to that of Etios, that is, 2550mm while the length, width and height stands at 4410mm, 1700mm and 1475mm respectively.

Powering Vios could be the 1.5 litre petrol from the Etios and 1.4 litre D4-D diesel from Altis. The former produces a healthy 88.8 bhp while the latter produces a massive torque of 205 Nm. Making it highly competitive against City, Ciaz and Verna and given that it looks great as well it may churn good numbers for Toyota.

This smart looking sedan is expected to change Toyota’s presence in the Indian scenario as its small cars Etios and Liva are not doing well. The sales numbers are slowly dropping for these two, while Innova, Fortuner and Altis are bringing in their usual counts so Vios’ introduction will be a good move from Toyota.
