Toyota to recall 44,989 units of Innova

Following the foot steps of Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is too recalling its 44,989 units of Innova manufactured between February 2005 to December 2008. The manufacturer will mend the faulty spiral cable mounted on the steering wheel which leads to the continuous blinking of an airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster. The expected time in repairing of the faulty cable will be around one hour.

"This (error) will lead to continuous illumination of an Airbag warning lamp on the instrument cluster giving prior indication of a problem to the customer. In addition, the driver's airbag may get deactivated. "Toyota is currently working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts are available, customers will be contacted by the authorized Toyota dealers. The vehicle will then be repaired free of cost." the company said in a statement.

Globally, the company is planning to recall 65 lakh vehicle, and the Innova recall in India is the part of this global exercise. The Japanese auto with the largest recall of the auto industry is trying to mend the faulty seats and steering wheels. Moreover, country's largest manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is likely to recall 1.5 lakh Swift Dzire models manufactured in the year 2013 and 2014.
