Toyota eyes 6-7 per cent growth in sales for 2014

After launching a couple of new products in Indian auto market in the form of nex gen Corolla Altis and Etios Cross, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) looks for a six to seven per cent growth during 2014. The company for the month of July witnessed a growth of 12 per cent.

New Corolla Altis

According to N Raja, Director and senior Vice-President, TKM, “The company, which registered a decline in sales in January-April this year, witnessed a marginal increase in May last and expects sales to grow by six to seven per cent this year.”

The newly launched 11th generation Corolla Altis is fetching a waiting period of two months and the company has already retailed 900 units. Now as the excise duty cut benefit is extended till 31st December, the company looks for a brighter output in the country. Mr Raja also said, "The positive feeling is back. But growth will be only in single digits. Footfalls have improved at our showrooms. The customer confidence is slowly coming back. We are waiting for the festive season, starting from Onam, Navarathri and Deepavali,"
On being asked whether the company is increasing the capacity of its manufacturing plant, he said the company has no plans to increase capacity at existing plants as it is enough to cater to existing demand.

Toyota Etios Cross

Moreover, the recently launched Corolla Altis comes equipped with projector headlights that incorporates LED & clearance lamps, while the rear offers LED taillamps. Move inside and you will find dual tone dashboard, voice enabled 7.0 inch touch screen infotainment system with USB, AUX-in and Bluetooth phone connectivity, steering mounted controls and 8-way electrically adjustable seat. Mechanically, the car houses 1.8 liter dual VVT-i petrol engine that churns a power of 138.1bhp and peak torque of 173Nm. The company also offers Altis with 1.4 liter D4D diesel engine that develops a power of 87.2bhp and 205Nm of torque.

The petrol motor comes with two gearbox options – Super CVT-i with 7-speed Sequential Shitmatic AT along with steering mounted paddle shifters and 6-speed manual while the diesel comes only with 6-speed manual.
