Toyota Motors which has the leading (51 per cent) stakes in the Daihatsu Motor Co. has asked the Japanese company to assist Toyota India to make cars in the affordable segment. According to a report in Reuters, Toyota’s Executive VP - Yasumori Ihara reached out to Daihatsu Motor Co. to chip-in with Toyota India to make India-specific affordable vehicle, in which the company has no strong presence yet. Nothing is concrete yet about Daihatsu assisting the Indian counterpart. Moreover, according to the report Toyota is also looking for other options than Daihatsu assistance.

Toyota Fortuner

Adding more in this context, the Japanese giant has been ruling the utility segment in India ever since it ventured into the Indian market. Innova took the reign from the Qualis as the leading MPV in the segment while Fortuner rules the premium SUV segment for years. Having said that, Etios and Etios Liva haven't fulfilled the desired result and are lately experiencing dwindling sales.

Daihatsu

Toyota recently updated the Etios Duo with a refreshed face and added safety features, this will certainly help the automaker to extract more numbers from these two cars. Now, looking forward to Toyota and Daihatsu partnership in Indonesia where both the companies rule the sales chart. This joint venture could establish Toyota as strong affordable mass market player in the growing Indian auto sector. Daihatsu is known for making affordable mobility and is a prominent player in the Asian markets.
