Wait for the much awaited Tata Safari Storme lastly comes to an end, the Indian auto giant, Tata Motors has today rolled out the next generation Safari in a total 4 variants namely LX, EX, VX and VX Four wheel drive (4WD) priced at Rs 9.95 lakh, 10.77 lakh, 12.37 lakh and 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) in presence of Karl Slym, Managing Director of Tata Motors. The four-wheel drive system offered with the top-end variant is an electronic-shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) mechanism that enables a driver to shift from 2WD to 4WD or vice-versa on the go.

Having built on the company's flagship crossover Aria's platform, the all new Safari Storme is no doubt a better product than the earlier version, however the looks are not very much different than before and has also lost its rigid feel mainly because of the absence of rear spare wheel mounted at the rear and some more cosmetic changes at the exteriors. But having the new bumper, honeycomb grille with a large chrome strip and well designed fog lamps with chrome at the front; newly designed alloy wheels, sporty lines and wide body side cladding at the side profile; and twin chrome-tipped exhausts, high mounted spoiler and new windshield at the rear certainly give it a much premium and executive feel.

And with a 5.4m of turning radius, Tata claims it to be best-in-class, other than that 200mm of ground clearance, electrically operated ORVMs and reverse parking system help improve the driving pleasure. While inside the cabin, plastic quality and wood used for interiors are top notch, the beige interiors and all new dashboard with revamped centre console give it a contemporary look. And now even more spacious seating arrangement enhance the overall comfort and luxury of the vehicle.

Housing the similar 2.2-litre, 16-valve, DOHC, VTT VariCOR engine, the all new Safari Storme produces the maximum of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque with the five-speed manual gearbox. The mileage of the new Safari Storme too has been increased, the two-wheel drive option returns an impressive 14kmpl, while the 4wd offers 13.2kmpl. And like we already claimed, the company has not replaced the old safari with the Storme, it's in fact positioned right above the old safari to fill the gap between the Aria and Safari. The closest competitor of the new Safari Storme will be newly launched Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio, whether it does well against them or not, time will only tell.

Commenting on the launch of the New Safari Storme, Mr. Karl Slym, Managing Director of Tata Motors, said, "In the Tata Safari Storme, we once again demonstrate Tata Motors' commitment to customer centricity. We were the first to introduce SUV's in India. We now leverage our experience and customer understanding, creating an ideal SUV for today's motorists, who desire in their vehicle a perfect combination of versatility and luxury."

Mr. Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "The Tata Safari Storme is going to be the preferred choice among all age groups. The customer today is looking for style, technology and performance. The Safari Storme is the best combination of these attributes. It is the Real SUV."

Mr. Neeraj Garg, Vice President, Commercial - Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "The Safari Storme is indeed a go-anywhere vehicle. We have designed, powered and embellished it keeping in mind that our customers will be proud to be seen in the Safari Storme anywhere and on any occasion."
