Tata Motors and Fiat are going to set up a joint assembly line for upcoming SUVs. The production capacity of this new facility is said to be 1 lakh units. The assembly line is likely to come up in Ranjangaon, Pune at the Fiat plant. The total investment for the said production facility is Rs. 3000 Crore.

While Fiat and Tata have chosen separate ways for marketing, they continue to share a 50:50 joint venture for manufacturing. The Ranjangaon plant currently produces Tata’s compact sedan and it’s hatchback sibling - the Zest & the Bolt and Fiat’s premium sedan - the Linea.

Tata Motors would be manufacturing their upcoming SUVs, codenamed Q501 and Q502 in the new facility. The Q501 and Q502 are 5 and 7 seaters respectively and are being developed with inputs from Jaguar LandRover. Fiat is expected to utilise the assembly line for its Jeep range. Jeep’s Compact SUV may well be produced at this very facility.
