Rumours has it, new Ford GT will be powered by a 600 horses V6 EcoBoost and will be a limited production model!

Ford Motor Company is reportedly bringing the successor of the famed ‘GT’ sports car at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show - North American International Auto Show, Detroit, U.S. There are also reports that new Ford GT will be a limited production model and likely to go on sale late 2015 as a 2016 model.

Speaking of the famed ‘GT’ nameplate, it all started with the GT40 endurance race car in mid-60s. Ford won its first overall Le Mans title with the GT40 in 1966 and continued the winning spree for next consecutive four years. GT40 race car was produced in between 1964-69 but keeping the same design-in-a-modern-way, Ford relaunched the vehicle with a nameplate ‘GT’ in the fall 2004. A little over 4000 units were produced and discontinued in 2006. Its also nearly 50 years since the first victory of Le Mans was registered by the American automaker, so company might be commemorating the victory by introducing successor of the GT next month.

Since Chevy has Corvette above Camaro, Dodge has Viper above Challenger - it looks like there’s a vacant space above Mustang which was once occupied by the GT in between 2004-2006.

About the new 2016 Ford GT?

Ford is reportedly putting a V6 EcoBoost turbo petrol engine which will push out 600 horses in the new GT. Moreover, expect the new sports car to get its design inspiration from the original GT, similar to what Mercedes did with the SLS. Fingers crossed!
