SIAM Working on New Emission Norms; BS VI Fuel To be Available by 2020

The apex industry body SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) organized its 5th conference on ‘Diesel for Future’ today in New Delhi. The conference was attended by senior bureaucrats to address the need of new emission norms. The conference also laid emphasis on the role of government to create a far sighted road-map towards cleaner emission standards. 

In the discussion, it emerged that the Oil Industry would be ready to make BS VI fuel available in the country from the year 2020 onwards. 

Mr. Ambuj Sharma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises said that “Government would decide on the timelines to move to BS VI emission norms in an appropriate manner in discussion with all stakeholders”. 

Mr Friedrich Boecking, Regional President, Diesel Systems Bosch mentioned that suitable development time is required for moving to BS V and BS VI emission norms in steps, to enable vehicle and engine manufacturers develop their technology to suite specific Indian road conditions, climate and driving patterns.

Over the recent budget, Mr. Vikram S Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd and President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said, "We compliment Finance Minister for announcing the pro-India budget that would strengthen the social fabric, improve governance and tax rationalization. Overall a positive budget for both corporates and individuals."
