Report Card: March domestic sale plunges by 5%

The overall domestic passenger car sales have declined by 5 percent this march. In March'13, it registered 1,80,675 units, which has now decreased to 1,71,489 units.

SIAM reported that sales of commercial vehicles saw a decline of 24.55 per cent to 64,101 units in the month of March. Whereas, vehicle sales across other categories registered an increase of 12.83 per cent to 16,77,445 units from 14,86,664 units in March 2013, SIAM added.

At the fiscal end March 31, 2014, the domestic sales recorded were down by 4.65 per cent to 17,86,899 units as compared to 18,74,055 units recorded last year.

Despite an array of launches in the month of March, the auto industry still could not rise, and continues to be in the sluggish phase. The new entrants include names like Hyundai Xcent, Datsun Go, Linea facelift, Duster adventure edition, Renault Fluence facelift and Chevrolet Cruze facelift.
