First showcased as a concept model in Geneva Motor Show 2012, Range Rover Evoque Convertible is now set to enter production. As per the media reports, the concept version now gets a green light to enter into the assembly line. The delay was mostly due to automaker’s pondering over the business module for a soft-top Evoque rather than some engineering reasons.

It is also speculated that the production unit will be showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of June. The company is expecting strong demand especially in the US and European countries which is the main reason for the company to give a nod for the production.

In the Range Rover Evoque Convertible, expect a fabric roof rather than a heavy folding metal arrangement. This convertible SUV is also anticipated to possess some serious off-road capability worthy of its Range Rover badging. In fact, it is expected to be no less competent than the fixed-roof version. The manufacturer has also developed a clever Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) that won’t pop up errantly in extreme off-road situations.

Media reports also suggest that Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division is working on a performance Evoque- Range Rover Sport SVR.

Under the hood, the convertible SUV will ditch the current 2.2-litre diesel engine to make room for a new 2.0 Ingenium mill, as the former will power Evoque’s sister car, the new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
