Expressing the desire to introduce the all-electric Nissan Leaf, Andy Palmer, Global Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Motor Corp, “We are actively looking at the Leaf for India....I think there is a lot of potential for that car (Leaf) here.” He further added,“There is no doubt electric cars are the future, the product is there what we need is infrastructure. Charging is a big challenge. We are open to collaboration with local manufacturers on that.”

The main reason behind the success of Leaf is the practicality of the vehicle, it offers conventional hatchback like feel, a huge boot and packs a lot of gizmo's. In India, Mahindra is the only electric car manufacturer, courtesy to Reva acquisition couple of years ago. The Mahindra E2O is also affected by the lack of government policies and charging infrastructure in the country. Lets see what will be the outcome if everything goes well for Nissan.
